So as mentioned on another post, I changed my diff ratios to 4.375's. This coincided with the instalation of an auto locker (Lokka) in the front diff as I have a standard locker in the rear.
So, first impressions on the ratio change. The "driveability" or whatever that encompasses is definitely better. It feels like the torque has increased that makes in-gear driving better. It also feels a little smoother through the rev range, but that might just be some confirmation bias. What does seem to be better is the "float" sensation I usually started to experience at speeds higher than 130km/hr. I always kept the Patrol in 4th gear, as this seemed to make it behave better, and improved fuel consumption. 5th was really just an overdrive gear. But now I have shifted to 5th and speeds higher than the above mentioned is a lot more planted.
I don't seem to remember my fuel gauge moving so slowly to empty. But I haven't had a fill up yet, thus I cannot claim any difference in fuel usage up to now.
I am also very happy with the fact that there is no indication that there is a locker present on the front axles in normal 2H driving. The steering feels exactly the same. No steering heaviness or mechanical clicking at all. It is to be expected, but I wasn't sure theory and practice would be the same.
I haven't had the chance to test the locker yet, but will get to it soonest.
So for some objective measurements.
Before with 4.11 ratios, steel front bumper, roofrack and 33" skinny M/Ts acceleration was as follows (Drag Racer App):
0 - 50km/hr => 5.6sec
0 - 80km/hr => 11.4sec
0 - 100km/hr => 15.5sec
Now with the 4.375 ratios (the rest the same)
0 - 50km/hr => 4.7sec
0 - 80km/hr => 9.6sec
0 - 100km/hr => 13.9sec
When new and stock it seems the TB45 manual did it in 13.8sec. I'm sure with a bit of practice I could improve on my time, but I didn't practice on the 4.11s. This is obviously also not what these vehicles are made for, but what other objective measurements can be used while limiting the variables.
Hopefully I will be able to report back on the locker soon. As well as some new suspension that I have been waiting for 5 months now.
