I just realized it's been a long time and maybe people are wondering what happened and if it still goes..

So... It has been 3 years since the Turbo upgrade and I am still as happy today as I was when I first did it. After a few small kinks being worked out, I drove the last year without any issues or hassles, hot or cold.. just always there when you need it.

I won't be breaking any land speed records but when I cross the line on a quarter mile drag race at 140km/h with a BMW 320i in my rear view mirror, then there is nothing to complain about. And then I remember.. I still have all my drawers (loaded) in the back.. riding on 33" AT's, rock-sliders, X-link, spare wheel all there. No weight saving whatsoever.
And yes, this is my daily driver... and the drivability on the roads is amazing. Best decision I ever made.

As for fuel consumption, I can honestly say it hasn't changed that much. At the worst (road conditions) I go down to 4.8 km/l and at best I reach 5.2 km/l. Very consistent.

Now if only I can find a 4.5 SWB and repeat this experience.... hmmm yummy...

Always fun when playing around, and here are my latest problems:

Goerapan event, on the last day we played around on the small dunes and I kept overheating while crawling, but as soon as I picked up some speed, temperatures were down.
I immediately know what everyone is thinking and that was my thought as well...
A lot of fiddling and trying to recreate the problem later, turns out I was wrong. Somehow somewhere the aircon management system went a little haywire and now the aircon is always on. Michael made a plan to monitor the temperatures and installed a shut-down option when the aircon reaches a minimum temperature, but in the process, we failed to account for the automatic shut-off of the aircon when the water temperature rises (standard to out Patrols I found out later). Well.. so we learn. Luckily this is not the type of problem I'm expecting regularly, but it still needs to be addressed.

Another issue coming up recently, about half a kilometer from my home, I lost my clutch. Turns out that the hydraulic hose sprung a leak. Heads up to anyone else driving around with 22-year old beauties: watch them rubber hoses. They do not last forever. Not taking any chances, I asked my local mechanic to swap out every rubber hose older than 10 years. No sense having brakes fails because you didn't listen to the warning signs. So.. all new rubber.. hopefully that trip to Zambia will go smooth as hot butter.

This year's list: paint. After 22 years of scrapes and bruises, the Patrol is not looking quite so well anymore. Any good recommendations out there?

I have to say though: even with all the fiddling and messing about fixing small things, I have been driving this vehicle for a decent time now... and it is still the best feeling to just get up to the open road and push the pedal down... You have to experience it to understand.. a smile every time.
