My roof rack is 2.2m long, but you can probably fit a 2.5m rack at the most.

The gutter on the GQ is exatly 2.5m. The size of a rooftop folded up is 1.3m thus two of them will be a minium of 2.6m.
What do you recon is the maximum overhang onecan have, and do I split it between front and back?
Thanks

Hi dirk, as far as I know, all RTT are 2.4 long when open and 1.2 when closed the width is what varies 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6? I had an overhang on my 110 defender of about 200 mm but that tent opened over the bonnet onto the bullbar

That kind of overhang is no problem for the car or the rack, but I am not sure about the tent. I would ask the tent's maker.

Thanks for all the advise
I have made up my mind and will be putting on two rooftoptents the one being the spider thingy which would also make it very easy to take off if only one tent is required for a trip.
I will try and split the overhang equally which would be more or less 10cm to each side, I am sure this should not creat any hassle's.
Ian the wife will come and make the pickup next week as this week is just hectic, will call to confirm time

The advantage of the spider thing is that if the kids want to sleep late they can while you gou on early game drive
