I was at RopeWorld yesterday and hope to get my ropes by Friday.

I see we have an outing on the 23rd of March at All out Africa, hopefully someone can have a look for me and highlight where and how I can fit recovery points as I do not think my GQ has the necesarry required points.

I received my first strap from Ropeworld. It is a treeprotector strap. 4000kg Work load Limit with a 7:1 Safety factor. My Snatch Rope and Tow Rope and a Steel Wire Strop will be ready on 05 Apr 13 (all certified). Ropeworld will have their ropes and straps tested for the breaking load. Their prices are going to be very good. They will provide me with a price list which I will post here upon receipt about 06 Apr 13. It might be worth the while to wait and see what they will put on offer. I have asked them to provide prices for the following:
1. Safety Straps.
2. 12m 12 Tonne Breaking Load Tow Ropes.
3. 9m 12 Tonne Breaking Load Tow ropes.
4. 12m 12 Tonne Breaking Load Snatch Ropes.
5. 9m 12 Tonne Breaking Load Snatch Ropes.
6. Bridles.
7. 3m 4 Tonne WLL Tree Protector Straps.

Jorrie, when you say 12 tonne, do you mean working load or breaking load?

If working load, that is far too much. If you are talking about breaking strain, that's about right.

Remember that the rope must always be the weakest link in the recovery system, and if you have ropes of 12ton working load, it becomes almost impossible to build recovery points that are strong enough...

The ropes I am talking about is 12 Tonne Breaking Load. They are also available in 8 or 10 Tonne Breaking Load ratings.
The only exception is the strap on the pictures above which is a 4 Tonne Safe Working Load strap. There are straps available with lesser Safe Working Loads. With these straps the Safety Factor is 7:1 which means it has a very high Breaking Load and is therefore probably only useful as a tree protector strap due to its width. It is in fact a Lift Strap.
