I am travelling to Vic Falls (2 -9th Dec), then Caprivi to Etosha (9- 14th), down to Aba-Huab (Twyfelfontein) and Spitzkoppe (15 - 17th), then 4 days in Walvis (dunes) (18 - 28th), then Sossusvlei and Luderitz (22 - 23rd), then Ais-Ais and Rosh Pinah (24 - 25th), then Richtersveld (26 - 28th) returning via Klein Pella (on the Gariep banks) to Gauteng (29 - 31st). A lady in a Defender 90 is joining in on the whole trip. I am a little bit worried about the part between Ais-Ais and Rihtersveld, because I'm veering off taking the Gamchab 4x4 Trail (river bed route), and would prefer to be part of a bigger group for support, should any problems arise.... Would you be in that area at he time, or want to join from Walvis, etc, etc. :helpsign:

Would like to travel to Etosha and see some of the Caprivi (maybe also go to Vic Falls, but don't know what this entitle e.g. boarder crossings and prevention measures).
Am planning to go around 26 Dec 2012 for about 2 weeks, returning Jan 2013. Mostly camping and hopefully take a friend or two with.
Anyone done a trip like this before, what is the Caprivi like, would like to see big game.

We are leaving Bloem on the 21 Des for Adelaide (Eastern Cape not Australia). Probably will have a 4x4 drive up the Winterberg. :woo:
Will sleep the 26 Des in Addo for my ants birthday. Leaving Addo on the 27 Des for Gonubie. Staying at my brother-in-law until 30 Des. Returning to Adelaide on 30 Des for my other brother-in-law's birthday.
Will be back in Bloem on 1 Jan.
Will be doing all of this in the Patrol. :blonde: :blonde: :blonde:

It took me a while to but together, but that is now finally done.
I will, as before, try to maximise the 4x4 opportunities along the way. I'm a bit of a fanatic.

14 December: From Gauteng to Bloemfontein for my Trol’s annual checkup of chassis, engine belts etc. Attie who did the engine conversion knows a few things about the rest of the car too and given how hard I make my car work on some weekends, a regular checkup is a good thing

Then sleep over in Edinburg (since all of the ANC will be occupying the Bloem area)

15 December: Sleep over at friends on a sheep farm near Middelburg (the Cape one)

16 December: Base - Stilbaai (Swambo’s in-laws)

22 December: Base - Vleesbaai (My in-laws)

While in Vleesbaai as a base, I will revisit the Vleesbaai dune trail (and challenge the trail guide Mario about the Amarok that supposedly towed the Patrol out of the dune!), then while Swambo enjoys the beach, my heavy (swaer) and I will cover the Paradise route, near Wilderness.

Then I am hoping to arrange a trip with Dave Farrel as guide to revisit Bonnidale farm (where the Hillux infamously rolled down 200 meters two years ago) and Moordkuil.
a) Bonniedale: http://www.bonniedale.com/Bonniedale-4x ... e-4x4.html
b) Moorkduil (a brand new track in the area. Not its own website yet):

Each will be a one day trip, so may not be able to do both.

1 January - Overnight at Baviaanslodge
Coming up from the Kareedouw side, this lodge is situated between the Langkloof / Kouga wilderness area and the Baviaanskloof and requires a 3 to 5 hour drive from the lodge to reach the Baviaanskloof. Grade 2 mostly. We did this last year too, but the scenery and sense of isolation made it undoubtedly one of the most amazing drives I have been on. So it warranted a repeat.

2 & 3 January - On a farm near Nieu Bethesda. Bird watching, swimming etc.

4 & 5 January - Tussen Riviere, near Bethulie, between the Caledon and Orange Rivers.
This promises to have a 4x4 trail that apparently passes some unusual rock formations (klipstapels).

Enjoy your holiday. I am looking forward to your trip report as I am thinking of doing Baviaans in Mar/Apr next year.

PM me... Lots of mud trouble in the kei bro, believe me!
