I have a 2014 CRD. Very very happy with it. But, you will drop down in power a lot from the 4.8
It pulls my 1.5t camping trailer fairly well. No issue cruising highways 120 and above but towing on long very steep uphills its 4th gear at 100 and some times 3rd at 80....if you kept momentum you can flatten the accelerator and push it over 100 in 3rd but I don't.
Engine braking on steep down hills not as good as my 4.2 but ok. I assume it still has better hold than any auto box vehicle.
Expect 8.3km/l average non towing, 7km/l average towing. Twice hauled 3t from Kimberley to Lephalale - 6,3km/l
As for the rest of the Patrol, apart from a few cosmetics there is very little difference between your 4.8 and a new CRD. (no jump seats in the CRD)
My 4.2D has 285/75/16 and the CRD 265/75/16 tyres. I would not consider putting larger tyres on the CRD as it will surely make it lazy.
