So, if I take the long proven engine swap pricing strategy of adding all the known costs, adding a huge margin of error, I'm talking about R100k for the engine change. Less whatever I can get for the ZD30... probably not much. For that I get,

1. Proven reliability.
2. About the same power. (+10%)
3. Worse economy. (+20%)
4. Resale value is unknown but cant be a factor anyway.

or

Refurbish the ZD30, meaning pull it appart check the internals and rebuild (assume new injectors, pistons, bearings, refurbished bits and bobs). Then as a "new" motor start from scratch with full NADS setup. Costs maybe R50k? For that I get,

1. Hopefully some reliability and the ability to go on holiday without always having to limp home?
2. Same power as now which is not bad.
3. Excellent economy. The ZD30 is pretty good in that.
4. Resale value is unknown but cant be a factor anyway.

Hmm...? Bugger!

From a gearing perspective, whats the cruising rpm like on the 4.2? Currently I tow at about 2900rpm and 100km/hr in 4th and cruise without trailer at about 110km/hr and 2800 in 5th. True speed because of the 33" tyres.

The bakkie has a differant gearing than the wagon.
On my wagon in 5th doing 120km/h I do 2,600rpm

"ballpark figure", omtrent hoeveel kos dit minimum om 'n n/a 4.2 te turbo?

Fanus ek doen verkieslik nie "bolt on" conversions nie omdat daar n groot kans is dat die engine nie gaan hou nie. Ek bou net nuwe engines van voor af op met al die regte internals, nuwe pomp, injectors en turbo dan kos hy R65,000 fitted op n service exchange.
