Gentleman another oil related question, would it have a bad effect on my PETROL PATROL 4.2 if I replace the current engine oil with oil for a DIESEL VEHICLE?? I heard someone once saying for these lekka groot enjin it is better to use DIESEL OIL??

Jules, your Patrol has a nice big old motor, but it is still a spark ignition engine, not a diesel. I would ensure that I use an oil with the correct API spark ignition oil rating and viscosity. The engine was designed, developed and validated around these specifications.

There are some mixed fleet oils (e.g. Caltex Delo 400 and Mobil Delvac MX) that have a dual API rating. This means that they have both a compression ignition rating, indicated by a C and a letter (e.g. CH), and a spark ignition rating (e.g. SI). If you can find a mixed fleet oil with the right viscosity, you can use it.

Pieter nou praat jy, Tjaart gaan ry bietjie een, ek persoonlik dink daars geen ander voertuie op die oomblik Diesel natuurlik wat n beter enjin op die oomblik het as die 2.7d en nuwe 3.0d van LR nie.Hoe die mense die nuwe Prado kan vergelyk met n Disco 4 weet ek wragtig nie!!!Die Disco het 600nm wringkrag!!!!!
Die rumour is dat die nuwe Defenders in 2011 die enjin gaan kry.

O ja Tjaart ek verstaan glo op die Kinsey report is die Disco 3 die mees betroubaarste en beste geboude voertuig in sy klas gevolg deur die Japs.
:confused: Die Disco3 eienaars wat ek ken het al verskeie probleme gehad met difs, electronics ens, maar hulle is vinnig om vir ander te vertel dat hulle nog GEEN probleme gehad het nie.

Terloops Koos, hoekom ry jy 'n Patrol as jy so 'n groot LR aanhanger is? :think:

Cornelius, ek besit n Patrol want ek laaik hom. Beide my Patrols gekoop teen n moerse bargain.
So daars seker nie fout daarmee nie.
Ek se dit weer , ek sal daarvan hou om die Disco 2.7d of 3.0 d se enjin in my Patrol te he!!!
Julle moenie so de hel in raak as ek nogsteeds van LR hou nie, asb man.
Ek het jare lank met Safari,s 2.8, Cruisers 4.5/4.2d, Unimogs en Defenders gewerk in my Bosbou loopbaan , in die mees onherbergsame gebiede en in groot gevaar veldbrand situasies , en daar het my liefde of respek veral vir 110 V8 EN Tdi gekom, dit was ook die enigste 4X4 beiten Unimogs wat ons met power take offs kon toerus om groot waterpompe te trek.

Kyk net na daai Disco 2 op sy dak in AD , wats die verskil daar in die "drivetrain" tipe en onderstel tussen dit en die PATROL, omtrent niks.Patrol sin is seker sterker , wel ek hoop so.

O ja die diffs Disco 3 was die 1ste batch 2005/2006 , almal was vervang.

Dis nou well O/T, maar ek sal dit maar dit verbloem met 'n olievraag:

180 kW @ 4000 en 600Nm @ 2000, sal wat wou gee om dit in my Patrol te sit veral met hulle claim van 9,3 l/100 km.
Wonder op wat se olie loop daai Disco V6 (is die nuwe ene nog steeds 'n PieJouPapnat ontwerp?)

maar die insit prys van R595 000 kelder enige planne vir die afsienbare toekoms ...

Kyk, moenie 'n fout maak nie, ek laaik my 4,8 - nie soseer oor die krag nie, want vir 'n 4,8 is hy maar lui, maar daai straight six se slogging vermoee en hopelik lang lewensduur gee op hierdie stadium nog die deurslag, ten spyte van sy suipvermoee.

Wonder of my 4,8 se manual ratkas daai soort van torque teen 2000 sal kan vat? Hmmm ...

Ek het die LR gery. GREAT kar. maar ek se altyd: horses for courses. Ek dink nie daai ding gaan so lank hou en aanhou doen wat 'n Patrol of cruiser doen nie. Daar is dood eenvoudig te veel wat verkeerd kan gaan.

Ek hou van die Patrol se simplicity.

En onthou net eending: Kingsley ry NIE sy eie voertuie deru afrika nie, en dit kos hom niks. So ek sal ook moerse impressed wees met iets wat my niks kos nie. Soos Andrew St Pierre White wat elke nou en dan 'n nuwe tent verniet kry erens en dan is dit die beste ding ooit....oops, shit sorry... :offtopic: :redface: .

Funny this; Buy a New Cruiser and a New Defender...

The Defender will give you Sh@#$T from day one, the Cruiser won't....

After 5 years the Defender looks like its been around, the Cruiser still looks new (give or take)

After 8 years the Defender looks 5 years old, and the Cruiser looks it age...

After 10 years the Defender looks brand new again, the Cruiser looks like Sh$%^t !

After 11 years the Defender looks the same, the Cruiser has been recyled and is now a coke can!!

After 30 years, the Defender is now run in; still giving Sh$%#t and tempramental, but going its 8th Cape Town to London crossing.... The Cruiser, is in its 800th version of a recyled coke can!!


Ja , Andrew st Piere White het groot marakkas gemaak met die Pajero manne, hy was deur Nam. en het die voertuig so n bietjie sleg gese,nou is die gort gaar tussen hom en PAJERO.

Oor Kingsley, het al met hom gepraat en gekyk na sy Defenders en Disco 3 ,Volgens sy seun is die die Disco 3 fantasties off road veral in diep water.

Goeie een Koos, ja daar is maar net daardie overland feeling as mens n 110 LR sien wat gekit is , sal ek een koop ? Nee dankie maar klomp van my vriende het van hulle en hul ry erg lekker
