Good luck with that. Not a nice engine to work on. Too High!

Dropped everything at engineers. Awaiting feedback.

Can the injectors be Serviced? Are they Serviceable?

Im not sure if the injectors are servicable, I know the Nippon Denso ones in the Navara 2.5 were not serviceable untill recently by only a couple of places.

Give Bosch a call, they will be able to tell you

The CRD ZD30 injectors are not serviceable. Clearly states in the service manual that it must be replaced once disconnected. As well as the return feul rail. And injector supply lines. Unfortunitly does not say anything on the DI ZD30. Maybe you can refere to the ZD30 reference doc in the library section on the forum index.

The ONE diesel mekkie I would trust wiyh answers on that is WESSEL at MENLYN NISSAN .. Phone him and feel free to ask him .. He will give you best advice .. he is the ZD 30 master in my book ..

Thanks guys. Some feedback.

Head is cracked. Got a few prices, ordered from Alert. Awaiting delivery. Injectors are at Northern diesel for checking, they are not serviceable.

Do I have to get the nissan head Gasket? They are blooming Expensive!

Also, water pump bearing is buggered, how's the aftermarket quality on water Pumps? And the tensioner fell apart in my Hands! Any option other than Nissan?

Well this is my opinion and not guaranteed that everyone will agree.

Headgasket is fine aftermarket if its the stainless steel one
Waterpump and tensioner should be fine from Alert as well, I have used them many times on loads of cars with no drama

I'm not disagreeing with Michael, a he does know his stuff about motors etc, but I'm going to chuck in my 2c. Diesel motors run on MUCH higher compression than petrol motors. For this reason only I would spend the extra money and get a genuine Nissan head gasket. When I redid my motor a few years back, Frans ( Tour de Frans ) told me to only use Nissan head gasket, and I trusted his opinion 100%. Again I only know the TD42 motor, so I can only offer my advice from that perspective.

I think aftermarket head gaskets can vary in quality too. You can get the "el cheapo" and the better known brand names like Payen and Victor Reinz and probably a few more. If you do go for aftermarket, get the best you can get !!

One thing to check (and this is me assuming that the ZD30 motor has sleeves ) is that the sleeves protrude the block by a fraction of a mm. On the TD42, I think the sleeve protrusion is about 0.07mm or something like that. With the high compression the gasket "rings" need to seal perfectly onto the tops of the sleeve and the head to create a perfect seal. If the sleeves are not protruding or at least flush with the block, you will not get a perfect seal and you will get major problems happening.

I also bought an aftermarket head from Alert when I did mine. Its still lying in my garage..... cracked.... due to the manufacturing process not being done properly. It turned out that the water ports were drilled but not drilled all the way into the water chambers in the head. Do yourself a favour and check everything with that head. There is nothing wrong with aftermarket heads, but even a pressure test wouldn't have picked that problem up. Its easy to check, with a piece of wire and a bright torch, look into the water port holes and make sure that they are open all the way into the water chambers.

Dale ,most aftermarket products are up to scratch ,but its the rings that I found that there are real rubbish out there,so I think that's where you gotto do your home work on.
the last 4.5TB motor I did it was R650.00 private compare to R2784.00 agents price which I must say was a bitter pill,but 45000km in 18months later and not using a drop of oil and no smoking etc

Cedric, from what I can see in the manual, the ZD is not a sleeved motor.

I reckon in a sleeved motor, the head gasket is FAR MORE critical than in a solid-block design.

Also,I was told Alert heads are re-manufactured rather than new, but I have no idea whether that is true.

The zd30 alert head is a power torque, house brand. It's new, not re manufactured. I don't trust the make 100% but need to save a few bucks and others seem to have used them with success. I will buy a genuine head gasket although I doubt much that they are any better than a victor reins etc... remember, nissan simply assembles. They do not manufacture. However alert can't tell me the Thickness! So will buy the nissan part.

My injectors I'm told are Buggered! No refurbishment possible. Bugger.

Cleaned up the block just now. Looks like number 4 exhaust valve was kissing the Piston? Guess I need to do some Measuring? What is the piston protrusion meant to Be?
