Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Guys, are you familiar with the 3L hand grenade stuff? Apparently the 2000-2003 3L Patrol engines blow up in a spectacle array of colours. Have anyone here experienced that?

There are a good few that have kicked the bucket, BUT....... Don't underestimate these 3.0L motors. Post 2004 is apparemntly when Nissan got their shh...stuff sorted out on these motors and they are unbelievably powerful and fuel efficient..... HOWEVER there is a few things that one should do or have fitted to one of these motors. Firstly an EGT gauge is a definite must have !! Also take it to a reputable dyno place like SAC Boksburg. They seem to know there stuff regarding these motors. The ECU if I'm not mistaken needs to be remapped to suit SA weather conditions to assist with prevention of overfuelling.

There are a good few guys that know these motors a LOT better than I do, so I'll rather let these diesel heads answer here. I did a trip with Juice on the Botswana pans a few years back. His 3.0 (2001 -- I think ) Patrol while pulling an offroad trailer performed brilliantly in those tough muddy, sandy, hot, cold conditions.

I personally know four people who's cars have grenade. They were all pre-04.

As Cedric said, try get a post-03 and score highly if it already has an EGT gauge fitted (then the previous owner looked after it).

Thanks guys! Unfortunately what this means is I will have to look for something else. The price of a post 03 will be too hefty and post 01 will be too old for the application.

Zak ,I spoke to a forum member the weekend and he has a 3.0L 2006/7 patrol and its got everything,snorkel,bull bar winch 2" lift,and and and
He lives in Pta and wants to upgrade to 4.8 auto,maybe you can talk to him...

Tinus the budget is unfortunately only 150k. I saw that I can get better models for only 50k more but just cant get to that.

Thanks Wilkie, I wil have a chat with him. It will mean that I will have to sell my vehicles instead of trading them and I'm sure he will want way more than 150k.

A good mate of mine has a 30l that was complete rebiuld he needs money for some business and will buy a patrol again you can buy that one for 140k....

The car is pretty clean and all the bells ect to keep it going strong its up for viewing in centurion

What model is it Tinus and how do I get hold of him to view? I'm also in Centurion.
