I also replaced the globes with the Osram Daybreaker... made a nice difference, especially on dims.

Honestly .....I havent got a cookin clue. After I installed them the clarity of the light on the road was a lot better. It may also have been that the globes i originally had were old and not glowing as bright as the did when they were new. The new globes gave almost a "blue" clean radiance of light ( if that makes any sense .... )

Recently I was persuaded to buy LED replacement lights from a shop that operates in a traders mall. They all sell cheap knockoff Chinese products that look the part and cost nothing.

I was asking about HID conversion kits. They cost about R350 for a pair and has the startup delay. They fit into the existing light socket.
The man then told me about the new technology LED conversion lights for R1000 for the set. The quality looked good and the electronic part complete with aluminium heatsink and small cooling fan forms a single unit that fits into the socket where the halogen globe lives. A short cable with a male fitting plugs into the cable plug.

They say a foolish man and his money are easily parted , so I bought a set purely out of curiosity.

Fitted into the red GQ , fiddled a bit with the focus settings and WOW. The amount of insane very bright white light seems illegal. The two Hella metalseries spots look like those old brass lanterns with yellow feeble light compared to the replacement globes.

The promised 10 000 hours will now be tested.
I have not measured , but the amperage draw also seems much lower as I can hardly hear the a change in the alternator sound with them on.

Keeping a spare set of old globes in the back just in case.

Don't ask about the watts and the light temperature as I did not check and don't trust those Chinese spec sheets.

I came across this thread a while ago, and sort of put it in the back of my mind. Amazing - because it came in handy yesterday.

I drove back from Pretoria with lights on (it was raining most of the way). When I left, both lights were working, but when I got to Brits I gathered only one was working. Drove home, popped the bonnet and gathered that my left-hand-side headlight plug has toasted nice and crispy...

I can only assume that the plug did not seat properly when I replaced my headlight lens over the weekend. I will be replacing the plugs (I'll do both sides, just in case) during the course of the day.

Good luck Ian, not difficult to do, but the space is tight and you may want to send the kids inside (in case a 'sailor word' or 2 is needed

Replaced the stuff last night.

As Stefan pointed out, space is tight. However, I've become the past-master of stripping off the front grill and lights. So I decided to work from the front.

This is what the connector looked like. It's a poor photograph, but one can see how the connector has melted.

I bought two new connectors from Midas for the princely sum of R15 each... Left hand side connected.

And right-hand side connected. The blue cable is just the tap I have from the brights for my spotlight relay. I removed the cladding to get the thing out nicely, and have not replaced the cladding and put it back.

I've fixed the issue ... just did both my lights at the same time so i dont have any issues later.

Hi Russ, did you have to remove the airbox to get access to the passenger side light?
