Hier gaan ek met jou stry(en ek weet van die goed want ek het vir tien jaar lank n auto electrical shop gehad en my pa is ook al n auto electrician vanaf 1955).

Bendix drive is die kombinasie van die rat en n wrywings koppelaar wat op en af op die skag van die armature beweeg om die starter te Koppel en ontkoppel aan die enjin. Dit is een komponent en kan nie oopgemaak en herstel word nie. As jy dit met enige middle probeer skoonmaak , kan jy dit maar weggooi.

Die doel van die komponent is om draai energie oor te dra terwyl die enjin gedraai word en dan vry te loop wanneer die enjin aan die gang kom en vinniger draai en verhoed dat die starter motor te vining draai en beskadig word. Wanneer die koppelaartjie nie byt in die draai rigting nie sal die starter draai maar die enjin nie.

Sjoe maar julle besig darem die die afrikaanse taal hier.

So ek gaan nou n moersleutel in die werk gooi hier. Streng gesproke is die "bendix" gedeelte van n knormoer net ter sprake by ou knormoere - voor die dae van "pre-engaged" starters. Die oorspronklikke Bendix patent beskryf die meganisme waar tydens die knormoer se rat uitskiet onder aandrywing van die knormoer se rotasie/krag, m.a.w. sodra die knormoer begin draai skiet die rat uit om dan integly by die rat op die vliegwiel. dit beskryf ook die ander gedeelte van meganisme (wrywings koppelaar) wat verhoed dat die knormoer skade kry indien dit deur die binnebrand engine aangedryf sou word. Vandag word die meganimse in "pre-engaged" knormoere ook as die bendix beskryf maar in werklikheid is dit nie korrek nie - so vertel die intra web my.


Ek het voeer vandag n post soortgelyk aan Piet s'n geskryf . For my own benefit and others I'll do it in english as to assist a bigger audience

I would expect a good solenoid to only close the circuit on the high amp side once it is completely pulled in, i.e. the solenoid moved the clutch part completely and engaged the starter's teeth with the ring gear. do you find that many solenoids actually does not pull in all the way before the contacts are closed as this would be a poor design and misses the intent of a pre-engaged starter.
If this is not the case then it is only reasonable that the clutch or movement part is a problem.
The ring gear has a stripped part or is broken
The "bendix" is stuffed - I normally find them lock up and the freewheel part does not work.
The clutch part is not moving enough due to a broken or worn fork,
Some starter have a spring thingy which can take up the strain if the movement of the solenoid is actually more than what the clutch needs to fully engage.

Bogeyman, from you experience does the solenoid work as described or do find they already close the high amp circuit before being completely pulled in?
The bendix/starter drive more of a freewheel hub design or clutch design. Is that correct?

Dit kom van die 4.5 enjin wat nou in my kar is, maar hy sal pas op die ratkas en die rat is dieselfde as die een op my ou 4.2 enjin.

Kon nie gisteraand afhaal nie, toe ek by die huis kom reen dit en ek het die Trol Saterdag uit die garage gestoot om te kyk of ek iets kon doen so die staan nou buite. Sal vanaand kyk wat maak die weer.

About three years ago on the 24th of December I had a similar problem. After much fruitless phoning around, I found a auto-electrician who was prepared to try and help, although he pointed out that all the major suppliers were closed, so therefore he could not promise much.

I took the starter to him, and was fortunate enough to be able to both watch and even assist. We basically stripped it, cleaned it, re-greased it and re-installed it, and it has been functioning pretty well since then.

The problem in this case was definately the free-wheel clutch which was dirty and somewhat worn. The shaft of the starter has some cam surfaces ground into it. In these lie a number of rollers, which are spring-loaded to climb the cams. The pinion gear slips over these rollers, and is retained by a circlip. Thus when the starter starts to spin, the rollers are thrown up the cams, thus jamming against the gear, thus gripping the gear and forcing it to turn.

In my case this was packed with rubbish, and the springs had collapsed a bit. We cleaned it, and stretched the springs a little bit.

It is quite a fiddly job, but in this case it worked, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a new starter.

Nee wat, hopelik sal Johan kom verduidelik, die goed is grieks vir my, maar is mooi skoon gemaak, borsels is vervang en ook 2 bearings, dis so ver ek verstaan.....
