I believe that the first step should be to see if you can avoid the snatch rope. Here i believe a hi-lift jack and some branches would have done the trick.

For a snatch recovery, here is the correct procedure:
1) Do all you can do to make the pull easier (as above)
2) Lay out the ropes, and measure the length.
3) Move the recovery vehicle so that it is 0.7x the length of the rope from the stuck vehicle.
4) Attach the ropes. Snake the snatch rope between the vehicles. Ideally use lanyards (much more effective than sandbags) and add sanbags every 5m. Do not just use one in the middle, you need at least two. Open bonnets where applicable.
5) Measure the distance from the recovery points to the driver's door.
6) Measure from the stuck vehicle the following length: Length of snatch rope x 1.2+length of extenders/bridles+length in point 5, and place an object next to the road.
7) Move bystanders away at least 1.5x total rope length.
8) Drive to object placed in item 6. If the stuck vehicle has not moved, stop right there.

agreed thanks for the info will . the thing is that vehicle had no hi lift points...
only an recovery point in front of the vehicle. used the wich extension strap with a bridal to equal the pullung weigt. next time ill take some time to prep before the recvoery to make it absolute safe. so lets say i only used the 9m strap without the bridal. hook the safety lanyards on both vehicles with 2 sand bags in the middle lets say 3.5m from each vehicle. how far must my vehicle be from the stuck vehicle. before i start the recovery. bystanders atleast 16m away will this be suffecient.

Vehicles about 6m apart.

Bystanders at 16m should be amply far away.

I thought the older G-wagons had bumpers strong enough to jack on?
