Duckitt! Damnitt!!
Dis nie 'n GQ nie. Deksels! Het jou eendag daar by Johan Tyre sien spin, wou jou nog wys wat ek met jou ARb bumper aangevang het, maar toe is jy daar weg dat mens net tyre-krummels en teerpad sien spat!
Kan jy vir ons gewone mense bietjie vertel wat jy van jou GQ mis en wat van die nuwe Y61-of-watookal beïndruk?
Hoekom ek vra, na vele mishandeling en molestering gaan my GQ my nou bietjie tyd en/of geld kos. Dan moet ek nou ook sê, terwyl ek die laaste jaar oor die kwessie wonder gaan dinge maar voort soos normaal.
Ek het eens op 'n tyd oorweeg om die GQ te bin en na die nuwer generasie oor te skuif, maar op die ou end het ek die storie so bekeyk en gedink:
- Die nuwe generasie gebruik die GQ se drivetrain en chassis as 'n bloudruk, en dit is die belangrikste aspekte in die Patrol resep.
- Die nuwe generasie het meer krag, maar die ou generasie het oor as genoeg krag en lekker baie wringkrag by lae toere.
- Die nuwe generasie en veral die 4.8 sien ek selde in handrat (kry mens die 4.8 in handrat?), ek drink nie brutal fruit nie so die outomaties gaan nie vir 'n eks-trokdrywer deug nie.
- Die nuwe generasie het alarm/immobiliseerder elektronika wat selfs vir Peter Connan (praat nou erg onder korreksie) sal laat gesigte trek op 'n hoogte waar water dit kan verdrink as jy 'n Patrol gebruik soos dit hoort.
- Die nuwe generasie is swaarder as die ou generasie.
- Die nuwe generasie is dorser as die ou generasie.
- Die ou generasie kan boompies platry & deur doringtakke skuur, maar met 'n nuwe generasie nommer sal ek twee keer dink.
- Die nuwe generasie is gewild onder baie mense, maar my bankbestuurder laaik die ou generasie kwaai. Baie kwaai.
- Onderdele en naverkope diens is ewe swak ou of nuwe generasie. Dankie Nissan, julle is voorwaar 'n spul @#$%^&*%$^!!
- GQ ouens is die manne wat die aarde laat draai, soos daai Duckitt ou.. uh, uhm, sorry, soos ons GQ ouens...
Gooi so bietjie lig op die onderwerp maar wees nou doodeerlik man!
PS, vir julle ouens wat nie weet nie, Duckitt het aan my sy buffer gesmous, maar my van g'n hoek of kant geken nie en gereken 'n kyk in die oë en 'n (vicegrip kaliber) bladskud is genoeg om my so week of twee krediet toe te staan.

Marnus, I would also like to hear Duckit's comments, but from my side:
I guess most of us GQ guys sometimes lust after the GU, and particularly the 4.8. I have been in the fortunate position that I have driven Tinus's 4.8 fairly extensively, and have had the opportunity to compare it extensively on trails etc.
Here are my conclusions:
1) The GQ's bodywork is tougher (particularly the bumpers). The GU, however, is more spacious, the doors close (seal) better and it is far more aerodynamic.
2) The GQ is lighter, but probably not enough to make a huge difference.
3) The 4.8 rules when it works, which is most of the time. I have been reading this forum avidly for a couple of years now, and the number of 4.8's with any engine problems can almost be counted on the fingers of one hand. However, I am wary of the extra electronics, because as you rightly point out, I couldn't fix it.
4) The newer cars are no heavier on fuel on the freeway. At similar speeds, and with similar loads, they consistantly outperform my GQ. However, I do believe that an automatic gearbox is considerably heavier on fuel in deep sand, but the flipside is that under those very same conditions it is considerably more capable due to the seamless gearchanges.
There are 4.8's with manual gearboxes, but they are very scarce and were only available in GL spec.
I am a great fan of manual gearboxes, but the 4.8's 5-speed tiptronic box is an amazing piece of work!
In short, I do not beleive it is ever cost-effective to swop a car in the interests of saving money on maintenance, because you just lose too much on the trade-in, but if you want a 4.8, and can afford it, then there is little reason not to change.

Waar sit die elektronika op my Patrol waarvoor ek moet uitkyk dat dit nie naby water kom nie?
