Eye David, there are many factors that can influence the real diameter of the wheels.

Firstly, the sizes given are only a theoretical value, and dependent on manufacturer and model it can vary significantly.
Then there is the rim width, which effectively changes the shape of the tire. I doubt this is a major contributor assuming the tire pressure is adapted to give even wear across the tier surface, but it will make some difference.
Tire pressure and the weight resting on the wheel will play a roll, especially since what really matters is not really the diameter of the tire but the distance from the axle centreline to the road surface.
And probalby one of the most significant factors is the tire wear, since on a muddy the difference between a new tire and a worn-out one can be more than 1".

Hi Marius,

I dont know about the 4.5 but on my 3.0D it did cost me about1.5k's /L. And it changed the gear ratio that I know have to use 1st gear. You dont pick up a drastic powerloss but there is loss.

On the plus side you lift your diff by an inch. This is huge when off roading. And with the diametre you just crawl rocks and ruts with so much ease. I see some people spend over 200k just to be able to fit 33's on there vehicles. Taking that cost into acount you should fit them, just because you can and without any mods

Indeed. I bought my car as an overlander and the standard setup is already hugely capable offroad and I did not want to fiddle with anything that could possibly mess with the factory settings, calcs, change the torque or increase mechanical stresses etc so plan to stick with the standard wheels and suspension for the foreseeable future. Courses for horses.
