In 1971 in the US, the society of automotive engineers changed the way they rated factory horsepower, so engines "lost" something like 30% of their horsepower literally overnight.
This is only true when using Horse power, the standards across the world are not the same (something like 4 different measures). This is the reason they brought out KW, this is metric and standard across the globe.

I think I'd still like Frans to have my Iron Maiden for a week to play with..... ek dink daai man maak trollie mooi gaan... :rolling:

I have great boost (mine is fitted with a slightly bigger turbo).... I straight line drag race swambo in her Kia Sportage and we run almost the same till about 100Km/h.... en sy vat nie poeffies nie.... :rolling:

BUT...
I still have egt's that climb VERY quick when foot goes flat and start climbing a hill. EGT alarm is set for 630 deg C. I try not wait to hear the alarm and like said before, I lift off to control the temp down to the 580deg C. CRD here in Alberton did the pump calibration and dyno, but maybe I should send it in again for a more conservitive fuel setting.

I should fit a boost guage to see what the boost is sitting on. Frans, if I'm not mistaken you said if the boost is high enough (around the 1 bar mark), then if the EGT is high (in the 600 mark) its not as serious as when the boost is low and the EGT's are high. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this, cause this is very important info.

Remember one thing guys the 4.2 @ 96kw will be more powerful than a LC without the turbo, the BEST turbo you can get for reliability is one that runs at SAP. ie merely an altitude compensator. Many of the guys complaining about the poor power gains are looking at paper only. In JHB a 100kw car has only around 78kw in winter and down to 70kw in summer, same for your torque figures. It's not uncommon to have a density altitude (DA) of 7800ft in Jhb / Pta. This is the altitude the engine THINKS it's at. So say Jhb is 5500ft AMSL, on a hot day with X humidity your engine will perform as if it's at 7800ft.

Various manus use slightly different percetanges but the rule of thumb I use in Jhb based on the last 10 years of Jhb weather cycles are 2.2% per 1000ft for Winter and 3.2% per 1000ft in Summer. So you mustn't JUST look at your GPS altitude. You can get yourself a Casio Pathfinder watch (forget the local name) this will give a fairly accurate DA.

Now a altitude compensating turbo will make your car think it's ALWAYS at sea level, it creates an artificial atmosphere. PERFECT for reliability. The theory works fine on a Petrol too. Low EGT's will be the order of the day. Bear in mind Petrol egts are normally 300C more than diesels - hence why you often see petrols with holey exhausts but few if any diesels.

Hey Cedric
Come visit Cape town with your Patrol and I will check it out for you.
Egt are good at 600deg.With the right pump time setting,700deg are getting to hot.(To slow pump timeing will up the egt.Dont worry, lift your foot at 700.It should not go there.)
The boost will help the egt to go hot and cool.Too little boost will have a higher egt and higher boost,(1 bar are good) will cool the egt down.
In my opinion and I know a lot of guys differ on the 4.2.A half a bar of boost wil work but the engine will happy hande 1 Bar and more.In your case aim for 1 bar.
