Jules my consumption was about 4.5km/l, which is about average for my car. My car was fairly heavily loaded, with a fair amount of stuff on the roof rack as well, and there are real mountains in that country.

I would recommend budgeting for 0.5km/l more than your normal town average.

Kevin thanks, Kobus (Herrie) is correct, it is a black-backed jackal. This is our most common (or at least most commonly spotted) small predator/scavenger. It is very dog-like, and in size it is about half-way between a Jack Russel and a Bull Terrier.
