Hi Gerrit

I am in going off topic here, but does that mean that all SA patrols have auto hubs, or only Y61's? i.e. if you see a patrol with manual hubs, can you assume that it is probably a grey import?

Cheers
Peter

The SA spec Y61 wagons have autohubs, but the pick-up has manual hubs. The Y60s that were distributed by Nissan SA all have manual hubs (I think), although they certainly were available in other markets with autohubs.

Hello Jules

The universals, diffs and CV joints should all be stationary when the car is in 2wd, and therefore they should not then be making a noise, except when you are in 4wd? Have you checked that all the 4wd bits are disengaging correctly?
Have you looked at the suspension bushes yet?

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter, feedback on propshaft moving freely when in 2H, CANNOT FEEL ANY PLAY. When I lock one hub still turn freely when I lock both hubs it moves a little about 13mm play, . Suspension bushes looks not to bad will probably need to use crowbar to test them a bit. The back propshaft? is solid as a rock. I picked up the right rear stabilizer connection was loose, tightened it might be the reason for one of the clank noises on the vehicle

4X4 disengages properly

Jules, jou 4x4 ratkas skakel nie uit nie. My gatsometer is redelik oortuig daarvan.

hello Jules

I am almost convinced that the noise is not front driveline related. If it was it would change pitch or disappear when you selected 4x4. JG if the transfer case was not disengaging, Jules would not be able to turn the propshaft.

Therefore it is likely to be something loose or toughing where it shouldn't, like axle bushes, engine/gearbox mountings, exhaust hangers or something. If the noise were "tinny", then it could be a heat shield or similar.

I think though that it something that is probably not something that will fall apart suddenly? Of course I can't guarantee that.

Peter

Gentleman morning I presume if the kort kierie is in either 4x4H or L I should be able to draai the propshaft if the hubs are not locked? the propshaft should only stop turning once when hubs are locked?, the play of +/- 13mm when hubs are locked is that excessive?
