It is with a heavy heart that I type this post. But I cannot keep postponing the inevitable.
I have to cancel this event.
I know we could probably "cheat" and get a travel permit to the North, but that would still not explain what we are doing in the river, if we were to be questioned... I can imagine the scenario of some of the people in the settlements along the river, start taking the questioning upon themselves....
And most of all, we are representing the 4x4 community, not only Dirk's forum, but the image of the 4x4er in South Africa.
If, by chance the rules change, before the set dates.... Then, it will most definitely be a go! But for all means and purposes this trip is postponed until next year.
Guys we are in the same position, Nissan SA and other Nissan garages that does some sponsors on occasions would not want to associate with a group that is knowingly going against the laws of the country (whether you agree with it or not).
As a public forum it would be unwise to promote a trip that is not allowed and encouraging members to knowingly brake the law, so it is with a sad heart that the official Patrol River Trip for 2020 is provisionally cancelled.
I see that the tourism sector is protesting this coming Wednesday on the opening of borders so should anything change before the set date we will revisit this trip on very short notice.
