Peter Connan wrote: 27 Apr 2020 09:22 Just a couple of comments on the rest of the trip:
1) When you were at Bloetkoppie, did you take a drive out toward Tinkas? That to me was one of the best parts of our trip.
2) At least our corporals never gave us an oppie while drinking beer!

PS, this was taken at Bloetkoppie. You can see it on the right, and the light there is our campfire.

Hi Peter.

We didnt take a drive to Tinkas. To be honest I was not aware of this opportunity. I'll need to chat to my tour operator ;-)

I'm glad someone identified the "Opie" with the classic "Go fetch a leaf from that tree" command followed then by the obligatory "That's the wrong leaf"....

Lovely picture of Bloedkoppie. It looks like you camped very close to where we did that night.

Thank you. Yes, I fetched lots of leaves. And it doesn't help to get clever and bring multiple leaves either!

I am pretty sure it was the exact same campsite...

While taking that picture, I heard a sound behind me (keep in mind it was full dark by then), and found a Cape Fox about 3m behind me. Had it been the leopard who's tracks we found in the river-bed, I would have had bigger problems than dirty underpants!

Looks to me like missing Ugab was a big mistake on my part!

I forgot about the foxes. There were at least 3 of them that came out that night to hover around us while we cooked food at the camp.

Ugab is absolutely fantastic, but the route after you leave the river to get to the next destination was very, very long and slow due to the terrain. Lots of that small, round, volcanic rock you find in that area where a lot of the time you were driving on it because that was the road. We got to camp late at night and missed our fuel stop because the town was closed when we got there. Luckily the camp was still open for us and setup late at night and made the most of it. Slept late the next morning and took it easy before heading off again. Sometimes you just need to recharge yourself and clean up the vehicles instead of leaving at the crack of dawn.

Latest episode posted.

Drive to Marble Camp. @Tommie: you make a brief appearance as we enter Marble Camp.

Apologies for the varying levels in sound volume between the dialog and music, which is more noticeable when watching on a TV for some reason. We've only discovered this issue when editing the content.

For the LC boys, take note of the "tail wagging" issue caused by the narrower track of the rear wheels of the LC. It's only really noticeable when towing in the loose sand.

Enjoy!
