Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

I received a quote for larger cooler that runs "separate" from the engine and radiator circulatory system (im no mechanic please excuse my lack of accuracy), the guys at Triangle quoted about R1600 for the cooler excluding labor, I was advised this is the best mod for an autobox.

That being said, I have towed a

1. Conquerer 1.8t with family of 5 &
2. Bushlapa
3. 3t Skiboat
4. Echo Trailer to Etosha in high Namibian Summer

and not once did the engine temp gauge move, nor did the autobox show signs of poorer performance.

What I do advise is to run new/upgraded diff, transfer case and autobox breather lines as they do perish and will cost you when doing a water crossing.

hugejp thanks for the input - you obviously also have a gearbox temp monitor.

What engin is that (in the disco)?
I know that a land rover 300tdi's thermostat only opens at 88deg.

My Disco 3 has the dreaded diesel 2,7 - it has 287,000klm on the clock and never used a drop of oil.
When towing our Bushlapa the engine oil temp has peaked at 130 degrees C on a very long uphill pass, but all the gauges register normal.

I also fitted a Madman in this vehicle years ago - I think they can make you neurotic to be honest!

Just an update -

I took the Troll into Mayfair Gearbox ( they are the official Nissan gearbox repair agents) and the workshop manager said all is perfect - that the auto gearboxes run hot and not to stress!
