I'm also partial to the black arches. But with any luck I'm going to replace the entire load bin with a canopy with full side access (aussie style), and then there probably won't be any arches...at the back at any rate.

So I had a look around last night and found this :
It looks like the EGR is blocked off too. Guess we'll see what the numbers are at the dyno day on Saturday.

So last night I parked at the little local shopping centre and after I got out a random stranger came up to me and we more or less had the following conversation :

him : Hi, sorry to bug you but is that the standard load bin? I really like it.
me : Hi. Yes, standard bin, just has cattle rails added.
him : it's a Hardbody, right?
me : no, it's a Patrol.
him :....ok. Did you import it from overseas?
me : no, they're sold by Nissan SA, but they're built in Japan.
him :...so, it's not an NP300?
me : no, it's kinda like the 300's big brother.
him :...what year is it?
me : 2015.
him :Ok thanks, cheers.


Now I've read many times that the Patrol hasn't sold well in SA because Nissan didn't market it very well. I always took this, with a mix of SA being toyota crazy, to mean people knew about the Patrol but just didn't realise what an awesome machine it is. Apparently I was wrong, and people just don't know it exists

hahaha..... So it's like driving a cool hotrod ...... may not be as fast, but certainly has eye candy value !!

So when I purchased Patrolicus from webuycars, they had lost the winch remote. It also had the control box bolted to the top of the bullbar right in front of the Nissan badge. Bad for airflow, and bad for looks. So this weekend I set about moving it and wiring up some in cab controls.

The problem... Part of the solution... I got a safety switch and a 6 pole momentary switch from the local 4x4 supply depot for the in cab controls.

I removed the control box from the bull bar, and opened it up. Taped up the cables in the control box with somebody else's craft tape so that I could put it all back where it needed to be. Top view of winch with no control box in the way.

To connect up the in cab controls we need a permanent ground (5 pin remote), a connection for live which goes through the safety switch first, and one for winding in and out, each.
Green/yellow = positive
Brown = winch in (I think)
Blue = winch out (I think)
Black = ground Without getting new cables my choice of where to put the control box was limited, so I ended up tucking it inside the bullbar, below the drivers side headlight. I might move this at a later stage... On the firewall above the pedals there is a handy plate which was apparently previously used for the throttle cable on non fly-by-wire vehicles (or so the Aussies say). This gave me a nice clean path to the engine bay. I took it out, drilled the hole a little bigger and fed my cable through there.
