Its really not that bad after the fact....when the wheel came of i went over the road onto the grass then back over to my side ...its a tank....really never had any rolling feelings ect

Regarding number of turns etc to be sufficient - When I used to race, scrutineers checked race cars quite often, and the thread had to take up as deep as the stud is thick, thus a square. That is as strong as it will get.

The studs are 12mm, so at 1.25mm per complete turn (12 divided by 1,25) 9.6 turns (to give 12mm of thread) will give you maximum strength. And as Peter confirmed, a fine thread is stronger than a coarse thread, purely because more (longer) surfaces meet and that means that the friction surface area is greater.

I must actually take off one wheel nut and check the number of turns, however I don't think I have 10 (9.6) revolutions. I'm therefore hoping I have at least 9. It would be good to check.

9 turns will give you 95% strength. I am convinced that it should be sufficient, after all we have 6 wheelnuts. Even on 3 or 4 I still feel 9mm from 9.6mm threaddepth will still be OK!

I agree. That was my logic too, when I made up the spacers for my Patrol
