Dale, If it was my choice I would change the ZD30 for a TD42 without even considering anything else.
The TD42 fits like a glove and your conversion would be by far the easiest vs any other engine.

As far as I know, the bell housing fits as is on the TD42 and mountings are also no problem at all....you just bolt on and fit.
The wiring is the only real problem to get neat and some pipes here and there needs changing.

Do you have an AT or manual? The AT have a bit more plumbing but I think the MT can be done without too much of a headache.

Depending on how soon you want it done I might be able to help you in one way or another, Have two TD42 engines in the building process if you are interested

What sort of power and torque does one get from a na and turboed td42? Fuel consumption seems about 4l/100 worse than the zd30.

4.2td pickup specs: 90kw @ 3600rpm, 282nm @ 2000rpm.
4.2 n/a: 85kw @ 4000rpm, 264nm @ 2000rpm. (some sources claim 91kw and not 85 - so I'm not sure)
4.2td wagon (factory turbo, not available in RSA): 114kw @ 3600, 330-360nm @ 2000rpm

td42 fuel consumption between 6-8km/l.

With an "aftermarket turbo" setup, it will very much depend on the turbo and the way it is setup.... power/torque will at least be a lot more than the 4.2td pickup (Michael & Tinus can elaborate on this). :salute: The factory 4.2td turbo (on pickup) only boosts about 0.4bar, on standard setup.....

Because the ZD30 is a nightmare. Nissan failed dismally with this motor. Unfortunately. Not any owner's fault, they just not reliable motors. Many issues,... which will still be there once it's rebuilt. 3.0CRD is a different story, but,.... i would certainly opt for the TD42ti motor if i had the choice of rebuilding a ZD30 or putting in another Diesel Patrol motor.

i may be wrong, but doesnt the Clutch and flywheel also need replacing when going from ZD30 - TD42. The ZD30 uses a dual mass flywheel,so......perhaps the experts can elaborate on this too.

Dale, power on the TD42's after they have been at my place is around 100kw and 370Nm on the rear wheels which is around 140kw and 430Nm on the engine.
Fuel consumprion is around where Fanus said 6-8km/l.

Russ, you are right and is something I forgot to mention. Clutch plate and pressure plate must be changed as well.
