A 4.2 diesel with ABS?? I think you are a very lucky man. None of the GU 4.2 diesels I know of have ABS. I may be wrong, but I don't even think the 4.5 petrol GU ( only the GL model and not the GLX model ) came out with ABS.
My 1998 4.5 GL has no ABS. One of the main reasons why I bought it over a GRX which all have it,
Not so sure what you mean .. My GU Y61 of 1999 does have ABS ... I know because the little light on the dash says it's so. ???

aggg sies Oom Mac.... look what you said here a few years back... ( in the same thread as below )
"The reason why the 4.2 diesel did not come with ABS is because it only crawls -- does noet NEED ABS -- abs is for vehicles that actually MOVE [same reason why no ABS an LandRammel defenders
Me thinks from faint memory of a thread wayyyy back .. the Europe spec [Spane built] 4,2 DID come with ABS but NOT the Oztraaljan ones ???
P C ?? wat dink jy ?"

Can someone take a pic of their dash when the light is on.... preferably on a TD42. I want to investigate this cause I've never personally seen an ABS set up on a TD42.

I.m pretty sure the 3.0 in both GL and GRX came std with the ABS, but very curious about the TD42's

Just because there is a light does not mean there is ABS. Mine has the light but no ABS.
With the wet road head down the highway at 150 km/h and slam on the brakes. If you are able to post on the forum after that it has ABS or your surname is Schumacher
Seriously though when you brake hard even from slow speed in the wet if your wheels lock - No ABS and if you feel the brake pedal vibrating under your foot - Yes ABS

My 1998 4.2D GL has the ABS fuse under the dash, but both 30A fuses in the engine bay are not there.
Also, there is no ABS "unit" visible in the engine bay.
I can recall when I bought my last 4.2D Patrol up in PTA, we were driving back to PE, and we were coming up a blind rise through a cutting.
We were doing about 130km/h and as we crested the rise 2 absolute chops were overtaking from the other side.
The vehicle ahead of me jammed anchors and so did I, and my wheels locked up and the troll started a semi drift at 130km/h.
The only vibration I felt was my poephol looking for traction on the leather of my seat

The easiest way of determining whether you have ABS or not is look for the modulator valve. It is a box sitting in the engine bay against the firewall on the passenger side (I think all of them are in the same position) which has metal tubes running in and out (I think 6) and some then run across the firewall.

A simple check to see if your vehicle has ABS is to put difflock on and engage 4x4 there Will be a disco light flashing on the dash.....

Dustin, the ABS unit sits on the left hand side of the engine bay where the vacum serervoirs are.
Also check if you have speed sensors going to each wheel.
Most GL's came without ABS........ I think I have one of the very few that has ABS
