Eish, I'm still looking for a supplier for the Tie Rod ends for a 80-83 Safari (MK). Else I'm going to have to look at modding something up to fit Heims. My rubbers are shot, and although it feels solid enough, they need to be replaced as one of my possible causes of my death wobble.

Is your Sani down on the West Coast yet?

About time you change your "Home Town", still says Carletonville on your profile, I would says that is a bit our of date now that you a crawling around on the "sandvlaktes" "near" the sea...

Sani still in Parys. Sorry about the hometown, have not got to much lately.. Sani suddenly got some attention today. My buddy decided to load the battery bay with a 240Ah battery and give it a whirl since it's been parked since the beginning of February. One glo, and he fired right up. So he got a bit of a clean out today. My move to the Coast still packed in the rear all this time, and a layer of dust so thick, he could not see out the windows. Washed down with a fire hydrant, and got driven around a bit. Emil willing to spend a bit of time in and under Hillbilly, maybe do one or two things if he can.

I am hoping that new ball joints on the tie rod and steering linkage can be sourced and done as a start. I don't know when I am going to get to the Sani, but I want to check preload on the Kingpins, maybe even replace those bearings. But don't ask me where the shims are I removed. Packed away in a toolbox somewhere, who knows where. I feel I need to add another cross member in the front. I only realised later that the original (much lower mounted) cross member, that the original diff hung on, was giving the chassis support, and adding a new one, could stiffen up the chassis directly over the panhard mount. But I need to work something out, as this needs to happen right where the original engine mounts are welded to the chassis.

Eish, here I go again, :imsorry:, wrong thread for this discussion

GUYS, I NEED BALL JOINTS

Thread revival time....

A while back I'm chatting to a comp truck guy in Aussie who drives a MQ, and he points me in the direction of Terrain Tamer for Tie Rod Ends for the 80-83 Safari. I could not find it on the website, but he told me to speak to my local supplier. I remember looking for a local website, but was not successful. Yesterday I come across the SA4x4 website link and drop an enquiry. Well the good news they can supply the Tie Rods, but they going to cost me half of the purchase price I paid for the Safari  . So if anybody is looking, Terrain Tamer has them.

I will just have to hold off on this as long as I can, and hope it lasts long enough to do my Heim conversion. Although, as I do not need the steering rod connection to the Tie Rod, I could get away with the driver side unit on both ends, and lengthen the Tie Rod. This would save me R1600 excl right there.

David, I'm going to whatsapp you Marinus number from Terrain Tamer here in SA. He is a hell of a nice guy, and has looked after me over the years with the things I've bought from him. Their parts are really good (well the stuff I have bought) and I found their parts the same or marginally cheaper than what i could get locally (brake rotors and discs and water hoses).

Cedric, it's Marinus that sent me the email with the pricing. I must be losing touch with reality or something. I'm just not accustomed to spending R3k Ex Vat on a Tie Rod end. My D21 Teknorot Tie rod ends were R280 shipped and delivered to the middle of the bush.
