Oddly enough the old diesel Patrols only have one fan, whilst most of the later Patrols have two.

I added an additional fan a few years ago when the radiator was out (it won't fit from the front - bullbar is in the way!) but have not connected it up yet. Cedric, once you figure out about the polarities, etc. I'll connect mine up. I'm sure it will improve the air-con's effectiveness when traveling at slow speeds & low revs, like say in a dry riverbed?

On this topic, mine has two fans. The question is must they work together at the same time?

When I take my bumber of because I built me a steel bumper I relies the Left one(if you stand in front of the car) don't work, I took it our and test the motor and it looks it don't work. I open it and clean the cumutator and assemble it again and test it and it works, but still it don't work with the righthand one. I test for power on the plug, but there is nothing while the other one working.

Any segestions that I mis something.

I don't know for a fact, it's quite possible the two fans are supposed to switch on at different temperatures, or that one comes on if you switch on the A/C and the other is temperature controlled?

If the first, there will be a sender switch in the radiator or pipwork with 3 wires, if the second tbere will be a 2-wire sender and one fan should come on if the ac is on, even with the engine cold.

Not sure what truck you have.

On my 4.5, my understanding is that one of the fans will only operate at higher temperatures. I've attached the "Diagnostic Procedures" for testing the actual electrics for the two "Cooling fans" (as they're referred to in the manual). This is for the 4.5. Alternatively, take the truck for a long burn with the aircon on full to get the motor nice and hot (today may be good day to do so considering the ambient) and to visually check.

PS: One note: it appears as if "cooling fan 1" assists with keeping the motor cool. If you start the motor with the fan disconnected, it is very important that you make sure you do not overheat it.

Oh - a final note:

After digging through all the wiring diagrams and fault diagnosis procedures. It appears as if the M/T configuration has cooling fan - 1 with three settings. Off, low-speed and high-speed. Different speeds will be activated based on the cooling system temperature. ie: With aircon off, the fan will be off until a pre-specified temperature, after which it will engage low speed. At another specified temperature, it will engage high speed.

A/T configs only have cooling fan-1 with "off" and "on". Same as above. The fan will be off until a certain cooling temperature is reached, after which it will switch on.

My understanding of it in any case, based on the manual. But don't have time to delve too deeply at the moment... Service manuals are a "rabbits-warren". You start reading the electrical diagrams of the cooling fans, and later on you're digging through the data transfer mechanism of the digital aircon control in the GRX... I should stop reading now, and get back to work...
