The Patrol comes with ABS and LSD WWW - now I have the option to replace the LSD with a rear diff lock - extra ZAR 26.900,-

Nissan Factory Winch - extra ZAR 30.800,-
Sub Fuel Tank - extra ZAR 7.200,- (must have )

Should I keep the LSD? As far as I have seen and heard the market leading articulation is so good that no rear diff will be needed.

Personally Difflock is better. Articulation due to coil suspension is very good..... but... you would need at least a 2" suspension lift to really get the full benefits of that flex, but R 27 000 for a difflock ..... ouch !!

In my opinion, Patrol only needs a rear locker due to the over engineered drive train, if you put a front locker ( like the front locker as on the Cruisers ) on something so strong, and you push it on a surface that it shouldn't be pushed on.... something is going to break.... badly. I think its a good thing there is only a rear locker on the Patrol to allow the driver to feel when one is pushing the boundaries. I have seen a GQ patrol without a proper working LSD, but great suspension lift go up places that I wouldn't even try !! It all comes down to drivers capabilities and knowledge too.

As for the winch.... I've have a 12000 lb warn on the nose of my Iron Maiden and have never used it to recover myself.... yet. I have recovered a well stuck Landy, but thats a different storey. So for the price of a winch I would do the suspension lift.

The sub tank in my opinion is always a good thing. Carrying fuel on the roof rack ( if you get one ) is in my opinion not the ideal (my Patrol doesn't have one fitted )

Last time i got a come up 9000 for josh it was just under 7k ....do aftermarket on that

same here - the only time I used my warn winch on the LC was to recover someone else. so we are on the same page on that.

if realllllly need the lockers there would be the ARB option and yes I am aware on when to use them

A lot of guys in Australia put locker front and keep the ls at the rear ....mabe a plan or 2 arb lockers for a real tank

alrighty... got it! *edit* - this means all Patrols in SA are NOT equipped with the LSD? *edit*

for now I will only take the sub fuel tank!

I would certainly not pay 30k for a winch to be fitted - you will get away with half of that at a reputable 4x4 shop!

In comparison to the Cruiser diffs, the Patrol diffs are monstrous. The side shafts are bigger. The gearbox and transfer box is as strong as railway sleepers. People often say that the Patrol difflock is the weak point in the Patrol drivetrain design, but I think it was either clever design or luck. If anything has to break when out in the bush, I'd rather it be the difflock than a side shaft or diff gears. You can always drive home with a broken difflock, but difficult if its a broken side shaft...

The Patrol motors, both petrol and 4.2 diesel (especially with a turbo) produce huge low down torque, and the drive train takes a lot of strain.

Lsd vs locker depends on your usage.

If you run out of flex, lsd doesn't work. But many people belive that an lsd is better in mud and sand than a locker.

The Patrol's flex as standard is about second of all standard vehicles, beaten only by the jeep rubicon, bug the flex of any of these vehicles can be easily increased.

I would say if your main usage is overland travel you should be fine with lsd, but for trail-driving a locker is much preferred.
