I dont trust those hooks as they are cast, and only rated to 10 000Lb / 4250kg. (snatching can yield far greater forces than 10 000lb i'm sure)
I prefer the simplicity of 12 -16mm steel plate, bolted by at least 3x HT bolts directly into existing captive nuts in the chassis rail. Thats my ideal.

I know of many guys using these cast hooks with Zero issues, but its just not my cup of tea.

I'm overly cautious, and only would snatch if no other option was possible. But, when i do i want to know that i'm good to go, no doubts in the back of my mind.

With snatching having become such a well used, documented, known, and day to day type of recovery, (particulalry in USA and Australia - where safety is SUCH a big deal), i'm surprised that vehicle manufactures are not able to spec such a point during assembly. I suppose they dont want to aknowledge that such forces should be put on their vehicles, as warranty issues may arise.

Warranty and liability issues. The strongest point is probably a tube that is welded through the chassis - your Patrol has a few of those but how to use them is another story. My old Land Rover has a couple of conveniently located tubes welded to (not through) the chassis and we built JATE rings to mount through those with high tensile bolts. Though even then I have never used them for snatching.

So this is my front point. See picture below.
I do not have the factory hook anymore.
I agree with Piet's principle of refraining from a shackle on this point, given the projectile it may become.
But now reading Russ's comments about hooks, I am not convinced what to fix on this point...
In any event, I would prefer to use two recovery points in front where possible, i.e. a bridal, connected to the snatch rope.

As the picture illustrates, the 4 3/4 ton shackle pin does not fit on this point (front).
Where can I get rated hooks? Other than importing from Australia and paying more for postage than the item.

Second question:
Does Patrol factory spec recovery points exist at the rear?

Google "JATE ring". You can make your own and make them unbelievably strong (as we did). Then have a bridle made up (as again we did). I have used my LR as the central vehicle in a recovery "train". With JATE rings back and front and bridles the same, it makes for a very strong setup.

Get a set of recovery points from Piet. Tommie snatched me over a hill, bellied in the sand - no problems
