Hi almal, ek verstaan julle feite heeltemal .

Eish Oom Mac,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. As others have mentioned, it sounds like classic symptoms of when a "hand grenade" goes bang!

This is a known issue with the 3.0TD, and there is a precedent for Nissan SA to fix this issue even quite far out of warrantee (or at least covering a portion of the costs), so I think it is worth pushing that angle if you can. If I remember correctly Abri from this forum had the 3.0TD in his hardbody go bang a few years back, so maybe he has some advice on how/if you can recover some costs from Nissan SA?

In any case, I agree with what Pieter and Frans have to say in the discussion above.

I wish you all the best with getting the Patrol back on the road, and I hope that it is not too heavy on the wallet! Once you have her back up and running, PLEASE read this excellent post that Pieter posted a while back, and get an EGT gauge fitted:

http://www.patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=444

If you follow the advice, and fit an EGT gauge you will be 99.9% certain of avoiding another catastrophe in future.

Good luck, hope you are back up and running soon,

Cheers,

Ross

Ek stel egter voor dat oom Jochi by Schuss Nissan in Parow kontak, lyk my het kry dinge reg.

Hi , this is an extract from the Reference document.

"It seems that the 2000 to 2001 model enine block was not designed with enough oil channels or they were inadequate so the lower cylinder walls were not receiving enough lubrication. This have caused additional heat and may have contributed to the engine blow up issues.
Also these versions did not have enough oil capacity in the sump so when driving hard all the oil enede up in the top of the engine with the sump running dry. Nissan had a fix for the lack of oil capacity and shortened the dip stick on older models to increase the capacity.
Nissan fix for the blown engines was an overhaul kit (part no MK101 VC 128AU which braeks into 12 individual parts )whick replace the block and new pistons etc. As this kit was available it seems there was an issue. Although no manufacturer will go public on any majaor fault, the engines were repaired on as required basis"

So Oom Mac , probeer dit.

Abri, correct me if I am wrong but a Nissan, technical guy from Rosslyn told me the ZD 30 engines in Hardbody and Patrol share the same name but the Patrol engine is an French design and Hardbody Japanese. He said they are by all definitions not the same motor.

Koos, dont know.

As far as I have it the differences are that the Patrol have variable vane turbo and intercooler which the Hardbody does not have. Appart from that same displacement, Patrol has however 10% more power and 15 - 20% more torque. The problems as explained on the Aus sites for Patrol engines that blew are exactly what I experienced on my Hardbody. I am also aware of ZD30's that has been replaced by Nissan SA.

Sterkte Oom Mac.
