Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Law of averages dictates though gentlemen. And the law here (and everywhere else in the world) states that the 4.8 and 4.2 are superior to the 3.0 when questioning the longevity of the engine. Its that simple.

So i would be looking for the TB48 cause there just arent many 42's running around.

I love braking the mainstream rules thats why I drive a 3.0D. I did get 9km/l until I fitted 33 inch muds and all the other goodies. Now I am between 7.5 and 8.3km/l depending on load and how I drive. I have an Australian workshop manual that states the changes made on the 3.0D. It was done after 2007. And it was mainly on the feul and air management system. This is now more electronicly controled, making the car more effiecient with lower EGT's. I enjoy my Patrol Vreeslik Baie. It the best 4x4xfar I have owned. And you are welcome to see what I have owned, because this is what I am comparing it to I will however agree that the risk is high buying an old turbo diesel. ( any brand for that matter ) but there are guys here still driving there older 3.0D and they are still going strong. The 4.2D is discontinued and with the feul prices ever souring the 4.8 will always be a huge investment.

For what the avarage man uses a 4x4, a 3.0D is more than capabil of doing. Make sure the car is serviced well and taken care off. A car is only as good as how its taken care off. I drove two 2.8TD mitsubishi's. They also had a bad rep for blowing heads. They never gave me any problems. I still see alot of them running around today.
