Hi Guys,
if you want to put a second battery into your vehicle ,try those batteries we use in the rally cars
They are robust small lightweight durable and pricy, but is worth it.You can mount them flat or straight up,as you wish
its about the size of a cd shuttle
I use them on my boat and has never failed me and are over 4years old
ATS in JHB sells them .speak to Robin Hougton.:salute:

They do vent, unfortunately our choice here in Dubai is limited, so I bought a Optima, which is recommended to be vented.

Hi Boats,
your post on patrol4x4.com and ricster here is who also sent me his drawings for putting the battery under the car.

How much lift do you have on the patrol, as mine is very little only 25mm, and what is the clearance of the terminals to the body on yours, as I can get the battery in on it's side.

I believe that this is the safest of solutions thus far, and away from the engine heat.

The lift settled to about 30mm (although when I initially installed the battery I was running stock suspension).

I use a battery where the top of the terminals are level with the top of the battery. There is not a lot of clearance - maybe 10mm. I stuck a piece of rubber to the bottom of the floor to ensure that I don't run the risk of a short.

The bottom of the battery tray is essentially level with the bottom of the cross member between the chassis rails.

Thanks Ricster - I remember us chatting on the Aussie forum - did you get around to installing your dual battery setup?

Boats, I never got around to making the bracket and went the easy route and fitted the battery in the back of the Patrol. I will still play around one of these days with it, but time and builders at my house is driving me nuts and eating all my spare time.
