Well one thing is for sure, water is no-one's friend.ChristoSlang wrote:I guess I'm in for quite a serious bill for all of this?
Christo, given the potential costs, would you not consider Dawid's second hand 4.2 instead?

Hmmm... make things new again, or tata-ma-chance on a used engine?Alex Roux wrote:Christo, given the potential costs, would you not consider Dawid's second hand 4.2 instead?
I'll give him a call to find out how much he wants. Once Graham has an idea of my damages, I can compare apples with oranges...

Christo. .....build a lekke turbo motor correct pistons ceramic coat ect .....it will still be way cheaper and you know what you have ....do speak to frans and micheal on the specific things
Cant see that there can be to much wrong with your current motor ......other than pistons and combustion chambers

Re: Chuck Norris is in ICU
Christo, don't stress about precoms too much as they develop little cracks almost immediately after installing ( was told this by various people ). These are hairline cracks as the 2 different metal components expand and contract differently. They are pretty cheap to replace but the cost comes in when the head needs to be skimmed as the precoms must NOT protrude the head !!

Re: Chuck Norris is in ICU
Christo, it does not have to cost you all that much. The sleeves will surely be like new so you just need new pistons and bearings for the internals. A head service isnt that expensive and gaskets are available from Alert at very good prices.
The positive thing is that you can now build the engine like you want it. You can now install real turbo pistons and maybe have some work on the head done while it is off? This does make a differance in power and fuel consumption.

Michael, you're spot-on there! Graham reckons the motor looks fine otherwise, so I'm leaning towards a rebuild rather than a transplant.Michael wrote:You can now install real turbo pistons ...
But you've got me with the above bit - what are real turbo pistons when we speak about diesels? And where do I get me some of those?

I drive a twin turbo 350z for my daily commute - THAT is real power!IanT wrote:Put in a 4.8 Petrol motor!!!! Now is your chance to experience REAL POWER!!! HeeHee![]()
LOL

And it also uses substantally less fuel than the the 4.8 petrol motor, even with me driving it like I stole it
