Oom Mac, jy moet onthou, Alex is 5 mense in die kar. Roof-rack space is at a premium.

To be honest, I am not a great fan of the jerry-on-the-bumper idea. It adds a lot of weight very far back (which greatly accentuates that weight's effect on the rear suspension).

The other thing I need to point out is that although the additional tanks may sometimes leak, they seldom if ever actually break, and the leaks are generally fairly small. Thus, in my opinion it doesn't really impact on reliability.

Ek wil net byvoeg dat enige brandstof tenk wat enigsins lek is onaanvaarbaar in terme van die omgewingskade wat dit doen.
Eweneens is die brandgevaar wat saam met 'n petrol lekkasie kom 'n groot probleem.

Fuel on the rooftops is out of the way, until you have an accident - a situation where it can create havoc.

@Peter - wrt Leaky, maybe not a moerse financial implication, bat A) if it started to crack it may very well develop further with time and B) the bunnyhuggers will kill you.

If you expand the tank size, no need to go to extremes just to get that absolute 10% extra. Keep it very simple. In my opinion there is very few places where you cant buy fuel, and the robust Patrol engine seems to be fairly ok with various turps and paraffin mixes from funny containers at curious general dealers...

I don't understand the problem, the 3.0 gets 800 - 900 km on the standard tanks.
