Do you have the VIN "F" or L65 series from Detroit Diesel? Some of them came out with retarder/engine brake / exhaust brake, but AFAIK not on the Suburbans. That would be a nice to have on a 4x4, and it should not be that difficult to retrofit.
Re. the 4.5, a key consideration will be the km's clocked, can you shed light on this?

Ricster .. . . I will one day when i got it all working the way i want(over heating problems when towing twin axle caravan, NOT COOL)

. But in mean time. has modified pump, AXT water to air inter-cooler, ATX exhaust manifold, bigger turbo, strait through 4inch(think) exhaust, Methanol injection ect ect .. . . next move is International Eagle inter-cooler with glass fiber hood . ..

What was the spade for - to dig out a tyota?

have a look at Michael 4.2 ....l personally like his hi flow cooler mabe it will help you with heating problems .....
also I have looked at the guys using a solid fan and making aircon switch off quicker ......your truck looks great

If its water overheating, then a bigger radiator is the way to go or the water bypass system that Tour de Frans (Frans ) who is in the Belville area, will be able to assist you on there. I have a bigger radiator ( almost twice as thick ) and that works brilliantly .... No overheating even in high temps pushing high EGT's in the patrol up long hills.
