Hi Alex.

Mark here, I am the guy that pulled up nexto you at the traffice light on the Tenerra the day you collected your Patrol. She is a beauty and I am sure you gonna have lots of fun. You may need to see a maxofacial surgeon to get rid of that smile.

I live in Durbanville so if ever you want to go do some trails let me know and I will gladly join you.

Cheers,
Mark

This is the kind of question that old Riscter (Cedric) will just luvvve to answser.
So I will spare him that little pleasure.

For the time being, could you post the details of the car you are looking at?
While you are up here, I may be able to refer you to another 4.2 D.

Hi Rovcra

All Patrols are bulletproof, but the 4.2D is more bullet proof than the rest. :rolling: You will see that the 4.2 is referred to as the donkey on the forum, but you will get 750K Km out of the car, no problems. Dung beetle on the forum got 680 000 km from one clutch and I think he is still going with the same one. It is no race car, but you can travel up and down Africa with no problems. It has no electrical system to speak of, so it can be fixed anywhere. It is very nice for slow rocky stuff. If you want to have a tour through the Namib, it is not the car for you. Sand is probably the only achillies heel of the 4.2D. Even with a turbo you will struggle in the sand. Fuel consumption it is also in the land of Patrols very nice. If you are looking at an overlander the 4.2D is probably the best call. If you are looking for more power, the petrol models is what you are looking at. The fuel consumption is something you get use to and the chirps around the braaivleis vuur. Drive a 4.2D and then some of the other models also, decide then. At the end it is how much electronics and power you want.

Best of luck on the decision.

Exactly what Marino4x4 said..... although the turbo does make a bit of a difference in the soft dune sand ( I can only talk about Atlantis dunes ), but you do land up beating the motor hard to getup some steep dunes, so no not the ideal for sand, but general overlanding and 4x4, you cannot go wrong with the 4.2D

Hi carlo
I would suggest that you speak to graham cumming
He has a workshop in valhalla centurion he does a service for forum members to checkout patrols that guys want to buy
IMHO it would be your safest bet
He works on plenty patrols and knows what to look for

Hi Rovcra

I absolutely agree with what has bee said regarding the 4.2. With it you will enjoy 600K plus kms of pleasure filled hassle free wheeling.
I really do like the turbo version of this motor due to the fact that its a bit more punchy in its performace. A bit more along the lines of the 4.5 petrol, bar the fuel consumption.
The only reason I did'nt go for it at the time was because the seller made sure to clean every nook an crannie, which got me worried to begin with and on close inspection I noticed that one of the intercooler pipes were very wet with oil. an absolute no no. As all things turbo, there's one way.. the right way. It might say TD on the back, but eish.. make sure sure.
