Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
Hi Gents,
Visit the Aussie Nissan.com site and you will see all the pics. Actually ordered a 4.2 Patrol pick up early in the year, and was told that the 4.2 will no longer be brought into South Africa due to emissions.
I am sure Nissan have got the 3lt sorted but wish we could find a reputable dealer with regard to servicing. Got new respect for this engine on our last overland trip. I however love my 4.2 and it will be in for a service in January. 400 k km.
I also think this is why Toyota have fitted the V8 diesel. This I believe will eventually be the only diesel available.
Had my Murano in for its 45k km service and got the call that disc had to be skimmed and new pads. Got a fright when I got the price. Told the dealer not to carry on as I would look for pads. It has been a month and still driving with the pads as they have not reached their wear limit yet. Also got a set of Ferodo Platinum's for 25% of what the dealer wanted.

Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
This "new-look' 3.0 Patrol Pickup has been sold in Australia for a while, and in the UAE it comes with the TB48 motor.
The only differences between the old Pickups and new picks is:
1: Motor
2: Fender Flares
3: Bonnet and Grille
4: Diff-Lock (in SA models it seems), and the best upgrade ever in my opinion.
Otherwise its exactly the same vehicle, and the interior is exactly the same too.
Personally, i wouldnt hesitate to own the new model with the 3.0 as i know how to look after motors and, thanks to this forum and the auzzie forum, could take precautions to prevent unnecessary issues.
The 4.2N/A motor is still the best motor for use in hard country, anywhere in the world.

Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
I am aware of the fact that the facelifted pick-up has been available in Aussie for a long time and in the Middle East for a while as well, but it is just very strange that Nissan would introduce it here with zero fanfare/publicity

I also had respect for my ZD30....until it grenaded.Grant wrote: Got new respect for this engine on our last overland trip.
Of course it may have been due to the way it was driven before I owned it, as Russ may suggest.
It is torquey, and can kick up a lot of sand if you want to.
But my engine felt under strain when cruising at anything above 120 km.
One should not need to go that fast in a 4x4, but once in a while when you are in a hurry, it is an issue to me.

Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
Hi,
AFAIK the 3.0L HardBody also has the ZD30 engine.
I got my old company car('04 HB single cab) back a month ago and all I can say is RESPECT!!!
I must say that I drove the first 240K km and I ran the motor in as best I could. It now has 350K km and not even the fan belts have been replaced.
When the warranty expired I fitted an intercooler and chip at SAC Centurion, and diced any platkar that dared to stop next to me.(I know young and stoopid). The IC has been removed in the meanwhile
That motor still ticks over like a swiss watch. Maybe I was just lucky.

Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
Gerrit you right. I also cant fathom how a company can introduce a new model to the flagship range and not even call a motor journal or magazine. It is very very odd.
We are still getting plagued with re-hashed / copy cat articles going from one magazine to another about the 4.5 D4D,, its actually insulting....and to be honest, i cant wait to never read about it again,....but, toyota knows how to get the word out there i'll give them that.

Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
Mac, look at the second last photo that I posted on the first page of this thread. That motor looks very much like a ZD30 to me.

Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
Oh and I think the V6 diesel that is used to make the Navara and Pathfinder unaffordable is the V9X, if I recall correctly

Re: Updated Patrol Pick-Up?
Imho I think they made a big mistake by doing it like that. Everybody working on farms up north is using their pick ups to work ....pull big game trailers load giraffes and buff when hunted. This is were engines take big abuse .....and the old school 4.2 works mutch better in that regard.
Make a big engine work less and it will last a long time ....overwork a smaller turbo engine and it will let you down shortly ....look at the amount of amarocks breaking as soon as the km starts clocking up ......not very good for the reputation of the patrol
