problems with fuel consumption

Johannes, did you do any mods before the change in consumption, i.e. added a roof rack, fitted bigger fatter tyres, changed the bumper etc? If so this could account for the increase.

As for the revving, is it at idle with the aircon on or off, can you hear the pump kick in and radiator fan come on when the idle increases?

The best on a 4.8 I ever get is almost 6km/l

Thanks for your reply. No, no modifications at all. And the revving is not dependent on aircon or temperature of the engine.

I booked the car in with Graham on the meantime: He thinks it might be the sensors or the temperature switch (?) of the fuel supply system.
Do you know Graham Cumming? He seems to be an authority amongst Patrol club members.

Hi Johannes,

My first thought was a problem with one of the sensors. I must add that I have a lot of mods that don't help with consumption. ARB bumpers, 12000lb winch, duel battery, raised suspension and the 33 inch muddies on wider rims. I also had a wind cheetah roof rack which I have just removed as I bought a trailor. I only use my patrol for recreation and annual hols so don't stress over the consumption too much. Once I have done a trip with the trailor I will post some figures as a matter of interest.

33 inch muddies on wider rims

I found MT's (even though slightly narrower) made my petrol Land Rover's fuel consumption significantly worse. Not sure if it applies here but worth considering.
