Did Chuck's sliders with Duram's Premium 88 Stone Chip. Easy to touch up, and sticks to metal like you won't believe. It's a water-based acrylic, and you don't even need to prime the surfaces before application. You can apply it with a spray gun, brush or roller and it's not difficult to get a "splatter" effect that helps prevent foot slippages when the sliders are wet/muddy.

Can't imagine that a mix of paints or a layer of clear coat will work well? :think:

I used Durabak on my bull bar. But make sure you get the water-based one if you do go for that.

This is the stuff I used - bought at Builders Wearhouse, for me to date it has not chipped or anything and as someone who is not very "handy" with sprayguns etc it worked perfect. The one can was enough for both sliders and still left if touchups would be necesarry.
