I think we must all take note of this. If you buy a vehicle without duplicate keys, negotiate it into your price, because it's going to cost you! Then at least you have something to play with, like buying new keys.

So, I have a spare key, but it doesn't work??? The remote opens the doors, but the key doesn't start the motor. The battery on the other key is flat, so now I have to use one to open the car and the other to start it - bizarre...

Hi Bruce,
Inside the dash panels there are 2 receiver boxes. They perform two seperate functions. One for the doors and one for the ingition/immobiliser. The key's transmitter have to be "paired" with both the receiver functions. This can be done by any Nissan dealer in a 2 minute excesise. It should not cost you anything.

Just a simple question.....
How do you guys buy a vehicle from a dealer (specifically) and not insist on getting a second key????
I have with all second hand vehicles bought always insisted on a second key - and I really don't care if they must pay for it themselves. Any reputable dealer should ensure that he get all the vehicle keys from the seller - and if not then the seller should be paying for the second key for the dealer.
Dealers should ensure that they get these keys from owners - or recover costs from there trade ins etc.
Otherwise you have somebody out there that is running around with a spare key of your just bought second hand Patrol - that's a scary thought!!
My second key cost my dealer just under R2000-00 (from Nissan) - but I got my second key!!! And I do stand under correction (except for the coding) you cant get the rest anywhere else - you must buy it from Nissan. Coding can be done elsewhere.

Hey Guys,
I've got great news, Houdini lock smiths here in PE can cut you a chipped key and program it for you at a cost of R780.00 incl VAT,

It does not have a remote but that they can also come up with and program

Now you have an old fasioned key and seperate remote for just under a grand!!
Apparently they fought the sealers on the coded keys and won, they can do all BMW, Pajero Merc all of them!!
So try your local lock smith if he cant help get Houdini on the line let them sort each other out!
