I found the article regarding cleaning the throttle position sensor, however this is for a ZD 30, manual, where the throttle position sensor and actuator sits on the pedal...
I would assume (as the poster of this article also suggests) that there should be some resemblance between the nissan TPS's on different models /vehicles - in essence, they all do the same job.

Would anyone recommend going this route - at this point in time, the intermittent failure of the TPS suggests that it is not completely stuffed but by drilling / opening a sealed electronic component, the potential is there to completely stuff up this unit...

Anyway, here is the link: http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/s ... ion-Sensor .

found another thread in the OZ forum, suggesting this is caused by dirty TPS, or possibly oxygen sensors...

Worst fears....

Gents, it is confirmed that both TPS's on the throttle body is worn out.

The helpful guys at Adelberg tested all sensors, and then disassembled the Throttle body and confirmed that the carbon tracks of the sensors are complete worn out ("chunks"of carbon in the cleaning solution). After cleaning the sensors, the engine ran properly for a while. When switching of and starting the vehicle again, the issues surfaced again.

With regards to sourcing a used throttle body - they are very scarce. Only found one in the country, however, not for sale without the rest of the complete engine/gearbox...

Where is the "bang head against very hard surface"smily?

Thanks to the effort from the guys at Laubschers Nissan, they convinced Nissan SA to provide the new part at 28% discount... Looking at total damage of +/- R15000 including labour, etc.
Compared to R18000 for the part alone, it is already much better...

the fine print: the cost exludes flight and accommodation when I need to go fetch the car 1400+ km away... then the lonely trip back home...

Dankie Quentin. Waardeer.

Ja kyk, die weskus was hierdie keer 'n onderstebo deurmekaar ervaring... Die middel van 'n hittegolf beleef... Visvang nie great nie, maar kon darem swem. Die 4x4 aanloklikhede was buite perke...

GP groete,
