Russ I am not going to advise about brand, but I do want to say this:

Whatever brand you choose, take the largest battery that will fit in the available space and that can be securely clamped by the existing hardware. A crank battery must work (frequantly be used and then charged) but the higher the charge level can be maintained, the better it should last.

Guys,

Thanks to everyone here who made themselves heard, i really appreciate it.

In the end i went for a big 650 Raylite 80 ah per hour battery which is meant to be perfect match for the 4,2. Well, after testing it i can agree! flipping bloody amazing! key barely turns and its firing! tomorrow morning will be the test though!

I purchased the battery for R1420 after going to every place suggested here, and everywhere else in CT. The guy tested everything and all seems in order, for that price it better bloody well be!

He also offered me the chance to upgrade the battery to a Raylite Ultimate in the next two weeks should i feel the need, but at the price of R2250 i'm not so sure. (R800 more is a whole lot of money when you consider i could have got the best willard battery available for R910.00 - total)

Anyway, will keep everone updated!

Russ

Just for information.

I replaced my main battery this morning with a Deltec Nx 120-7 (90ah) with strong cold-crank amp spec at Battery Inn Centurion for R1146 including VAT and old battery exchange. I thought it was a very good price for a very good battery. I enquired about some other batteries on their shelves...VERY GOOD prices.

Been using Deltecs for YEARS on our large diesel generators (40-1000kw) the ONLY problem with them...customers never replace them. Great batteries.

And at times (with air in the system) they CRANK and CRANK without running flat.

Right, My Nissan branded battery is m*er toe...

I Spoke to the guys at Deltec here in Alrode and they have told me to buy a battery by the name of Varta.
These guys have the full range of Deltec's and the full range of Optimas in stock yet they prefer to seel this cheaper battery as they are convinced that it is better value for money for my application.
Anybody heard of Varta's before

They have a 652HC which pushes 74ah and are asking R964.00 plus vat.

I bought a Deltec NX120 (90AH) about 6 months ago from capital batteries (Willard) in Centurion fro R1100. A very good battery for the patrol. Also had similar battery in my last patrol for about 4 years with no problems.
