Yes, 3-ply sidewall, but apparently the cords in the sidewall are stronger than on the previous BFG M/T T/A KM and a more cut and puncture resistant rubber compound has been used in the sidewall.

I have been running the KM2's for 10 000km, no complaints so far.

Herewith my comment on the 4x4community site:
Did a trip through Kaokoland during July on a set of 285/75/16 KM2's on my Patrol, a friend has a set of 285/70/17 KM2's on his 4.8 Patrol. No punctures throughout the trip. On-road road holding was good. The car was very heavy (weighed in at 3420kg on the weighbridge) thus did not do speeds above 130km/h. On gravel traction was good and very smooth at 1.6bar. Off-road grip was excellent.
As far as roadnoise is concerned you should not be driving a 4x4 if roadnoise is a problem. However I am pretty sure my roofrack is noisier than the tires and with the windows closed I cant detect any difference in noice between the BFG AT I had previously and the KM2's

Would I fit it again? Most definitely.
I bought it from Autowiel in Pretoria in March 2009 for R2230 each fitted and balanced.

I ordered my KM2's yesterday in a 265/75R16. Decided to stick to a small tyres on the little Triton, as it's also my daily driver, etc, etc. When I get a Patrol I'll go 35" or bigger. A friend of mine has them on his KZTE and says compared to the GY MTR's, Cooper STT's and Bridgestone M/T's he used in the past, they are much quieter.

BTW, Bighorns aren't always available, when I checked mid August, both the 265/75R16 & 285/75R16 Bighorns were out of stock and I would've had to wait 2-3 weeks, but the KM2's were only a week away. It can obviously be the other way around, but don't let availibility be the swing factor, as it's much of a muchness.

Zantus, how do you find the KM2's?

Only getting them fitted on Monday. I had to do 300km of bad gravel roads last night and this morning, so I thought I'd give the GY MTR's a final thrashing.

Have done 16000km with the KM2's now and still as happy as day one. Will definitely use them again. Did Tierkloof last Saturday and completed the sand pit with the tyres at 1.5bar. I have done this trail numerous times before and always had to deflate to 1 bar at least. Sand was nice and dry and outside temp was about 33degree's.

Hi Abri,

Thanks for the updates....I think there are a few of us watching this thread with interest, as we decide what our next set of tyres will be.

At 16 000km, what percentage of the tread depth do you think you have used? All the feedback on KM2`s seems very positive so far, but it will be interesting to see what sort of ultimate milage one will get off a set. Can`t be worse than Maxxis Bighorns though!!!

Just measured, got 12mm tread left on all four tyres. New is 19mm. Will be interesting to see how it lasts.

That's quite a high wear rate then, Abri. 7mm of tread was used up in 16000 km. There is 17.4mm of tread to use until the tyres are at the legal limit, so that would translate into a life of only 40000 km or so...
