Hi Bart
There is a green one for sale in Zambezi rd close to me. Just not the time to go and check it out.
Will do so the weekend, and let you know.

If this were my decision (I wish) I would probably opt for a slightly older 4.8, and use the saving to pay for the fuel. The reason for this is that this forum is full of stories of woe with all the various turbo diesels (although for many different reasons most of which have nothing to do with the actual vehicle) but there is virtually not a single story telling of problems with an un-modified 4.8 patrol.
The petrol engines used in the Patrol are well known for their exceptional reliability and longevity, and can apparently easily last 600 000km. And maintenance is also cheaper, which offsets a lot of the extra fuel costs.

Hi Peter,
I agree that the 4.8 is incredible and realiable, I even saw some good deals for around mid R200.000 with fairly low mileage. I was hoping to be able to get a diesel for either the same or even a bit less money because they dont have the best name in reliability but I believe that is caused by the 2000 - 2003 models with known issues. Currently I spend about R2000 a month on fuel in my polo with runs on ave about 8L/100, if I now convert that to the ave of a 4.8 (with my heavy foot) that will be around 20 - 25L/100, not sure I can cope with a R5000 fuel bill every month. The diesel should get me about 11 - 12L/100 from what I have read which means maybe paying R3000 for fuel.
Only research will tell if if a diesel will really cost 2K a month more (which I doubt). If I had a petrol card from work I would already be driving a 4.8!
Appreciate the comments so far, even the ones that are a little off topic

Hi Peter V,
I think your spot on, I have seen that knowing what you would like and actually getting it is 2 different things. However it can happen and it might take a little time. I am ok with this as this is all still in the planning phase and still need a couple months before making a purchase decision (pushing for a good increase! maybe even good enough for that 4.8

). 1 day I might use this vehicle to drive back to EU where I come from (dreams may come true!).

My 4.8GL gee my in die stad tussen 4,6km/l - 5km/l as ek mooi ry.
