Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

There had been several previous complaints about poor maintenance of track at Hennopspride.
Now having been there this weekend, what is the state of the tracks and facilities generally (for driving as well as for camping etc)?

Hello Alex,

Well, since a year ago that I've been there, there has been some wear & tear on the obsticle subject of the video referred to in previous post. However, the campsite still looked the same and the tracks we did on Saturday (basically straight to this obsticle and out) were fairly ok. Nothing to scare a patrol.

At the gate the lady told me that, at certain obsticles, some of the logs were moved out of position/broken this weekend and that they will repair/maintain it during the week. I did not come acros this as we only went straight to this one challenge. When exiting the owner manager guy was at the gate and asked me about my impression, and I told him that we did find the uphill on that particular obsticle quite challenging. His reply was that they generally leave one or two obsticles unmaintained to provide a hardcore challenge and then take care of the rest. If this is true I believe they should expand the rest of the trail a bit. I also noted that unless there is Unimogs going there, obsticle 11 is still completely impassable, even for the very serious enthusiasts.

Also I am somewhat dissapointed that they do not provied a river crossing obsticle, as clearly one did exist in the past but has fallen into serious neglect, rendering in obsolute. We drove through the campsite as well to have a look. The pools are stil fantastic and the premises is neat and clean, even after the weekend guys was there all Saturday. The facilities are starting to show their age, but is cleaned. ablution facilities will be much better with some refurbishment. I think generally the state is such that guys will still be able to not be bothered but those with a finer developed taste for basic provisions will be dismayed.

Pools are fantastic! Put-put looks better than a year ago, but I think this has been limited to new filt fitted some time. There is 4x4 challenge for everybody's taste, maybe not the biggest variety in each level. However, for the Patrol guy there is a lot of fun.

For a 4x4 challenge, great destination. Kids will enjoy the river and the pools. But given the choice, I think Eastco Magalies, for one, cost a little bit more but offer game on the 4x4 trails, a slide at the pools and more modern facilities.

What about Heidelburg. Just spoke to Graham and he has indicated he has grade 3 to 5 . Trail is about 2 hours.

Has anybody been to Heidelberg? what are their rates?

Hennops Pride will also only be keeping you busy for 2-3 hours, depending on the amount of vehicles. but once you're done the other Hennops trail is around the corner.

Sorry Alex, now only spot your question. Yes, I was at Eastco last weekend. Good fun, some big eland and even a wit blesbok. The route has some sections in disrepair, some really nice (though short) challenges and some areas where those with sanity will stay clear, but the majority is fairly simple.

Nice bungalows/chalets and good camping facilities. For the anglers also a few fish dams, not fenced off, so if you have very young kids need to keep an eye. Nice swimming pool with a very nice slide. Shop on the premises, quad bike circuit (not near the 4x4 trail). Generally the trail is rocky but some areas may be muddy following hard rains.
