Did mine as well. Just make sure that you increase the fuse rating for the hazzard indicators , as it now has to switch more globes on and off. This is located in the engine bay.

No, the issue has to do with the visibility of the stop lamps when viewed at an angle from directly astern (at least in terms of the current road regs).
According to the National Road Trafic Regulations, the tail lights may not be fitted lower than 350mm above the ground, nor higher than 1500mm above the ground, unless the layout of the vehicle makes this impossible, in which case the absolute maximum allowable mounting height is 2100mm above ground. From this it should be clear that the lights can me mounted quite high up, even on a tall SUV.
The regulations also state, however, that an observer must have an unobscured view of the stop lamps at an angle of 45 degrees from directly astern laterally and 15 degrees from directly astern in the vertical plane. Stop lamps may not be mounted lower than 300 mm and not higher than 2100 mm from the ground.

Well I went to the trouble of taking both rear lights out, plugged in my multimeter and viola - the wiring looms and plugs that were supposed to connect to the dummy lights are actually active and correctly connected - driving and brake lights, indicators, even the reverse light works.
So I toddled off to Nissan to find out if they have a loom with the correct plug to fit into the existing setup.
Yes they have - R291,16 per side. I suspect with a little effort this can be produced quite a bit cheaper.
Lunar is correct - the best solution are the push in type globe holders.
Kippie here first tried the conventional slotted version that pushes in and then turns to lock. Not a good option as the lens plastic is too thick, making a positive seal close to impossible.
hope this helps future modifers!

Ek het my altwee my onderste bumpers stukkend gery as ek teen steil bulte op "depart". Nissan in Pietersburg vra my R3700 vir EEN liggie.
