The main difference I think is updates. With the Thinkdiag its a legit company who gives you free updates on all vehicles for 1 year, the other cheap units might not have full functionality

Hi Zak
I've had similar issues with limp mode pointing at the throttle body as the cause. After many months of looking for the problem and changing the throttle body, it turned out that the problem was not with the throttle body but with the ECU.
I remember Pearly here on the forum had a similar issue, but in his case it was the AT CONT. relay that sits in the left front of the engine bay. Might be worth swopping that out, it's a lot cheaper than an ECU!
Hi Jonathan,
I took the AT CONT out and it did look sketchy with a slight brown spot on its side. Will get new relays but I exchanged it for now with the REVERSE LAMP relay. Did you guys have to clear or reset everything to fix the issue or was it corrected instantly?
Hi Zak. I'm not too sure what the guys had to do exactly, but as far as I know when you swop the ECU you need a decent diagnostic tool to sync everything up, like the keys for one and most likely the transmission control as well. I'm not sure about the TB, but I am pretty sure it will also require calibration.
But as Michael says, everything needs to work together and feed signals to the ECU and vice versa. For me it was a rabbit hole that lead to a dark and scary place once I started digging. I have the 500-page Engine Control section from the workshop manual but it's too large to add here, PM me your e-mail address and I can send it you if don't have it already.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did manage to order the Thinkdiag from takealot on the 2nd, delivery on the 13th so waiting impatiently. Ordered the relays too. When it arrives I'll scratch around with it and post an update here.

Hi guys,
Received the diag tool earlier. Downloaded everything and run diagnostics. The same error comes up but there are so many options and tests that its gonna take me some time to figure out what to do. I dont see any option to correct things though, like sync or calibrating something.

After half a tank idling and a lot of downloads I'm certain the Thinkdiag isn't doing the job. When trying to reset the throttle body it does nothing other than displaying current status of other things. When trying to learn the air flow it just says connecting for a long time. Had it idling for more than 30 minutes at times.
If there's no one with some advice on this diag tool then I'm returning to takealot. Are there any other tools that was used and can be recommended?
