Will contact Frans tomorrow to have a chat, thanks guys.
In the meantime, is there anyway to find out what TD42 variant the one I am looking at is without opening up the motor and checking the Gudgeon pins, pistons etc? Like the engine number or any other tell tale signs? Would like to know if its from a GQ, or GU if it was NA or a factory turbo, for ordering parts.
I may just be going ahead with this if everything pans out...

Not that I am aware of.
Again, call Michael. He has studied this more than anybody else locally.

From what I've read, the engine number suffix (last letter) should be the indicator.
A = aspiration/boost compensator
T = Turbo
No suffix = normal aspiration

A lot of Silvertops were fitted in Na applications.
Mine has no suffix.

Indeed. That wasn't the question. But the silvertop is the best to use when converting to Turbo.

First prize would be the factory turbo TD42
I tis claimed to be stronger than the silver tops
You can fit a larger turbo or keep as is.

Have chatted to Frans Fourie & Michael.
Got a lot of good information.
I'm going to be going ahead with the TD42 Conversion.
Going to send Michael some pics of the TD42 later, he may be able to figure out what variant it is from the front crank bolt head and where the oil feed and return lines for the turbo go.
So the fortunate/unfortunate thing is that Frans Fourie is booked up until next year, Gerhard from G-Tec as well, so I will have to send the car to Michael, which will cost more which isn't great, but I know it will be done properly so that is the bitter sweet part.
@Peter Connan,
did you buy your oem radiator, locally at Nissan? I wonder what the chances of me finding one locally is...

Andreas,
Contact Dawid Volschenk who has the Patrol scrapyard in Bela Bela. He told me he imports radiators for all the variants of Patrols, so much so that Nissan SA buys Patrol radiators from him. WhatsApp your requirements to Dawid on 083 499 1588. He will phone you back.
