Het gisteraand bietjie gekarring aan die Patrol.

Wou kyk in wat se toestand die punte ens is. My distributor cap se kontakte aan die binnekant is al lekker weggewerk, and die rotor ook.

Het vanoggend die wereld plat gebel. Net die stealers kan my help met nuwes - R645 vir die cap en R680 vir die rotor :surprised:

Weet iemand dalk van ouens in Gauteng wat aftermarket parte aanhou?

Terwyl jy besig is - sit sommer 'n Petronix Ignitor in die plek van die punte en condensor. Ek het dit met my ou Safari gedoen en dit was een van die beste beleggings ooit. Jy stel hom een keer en worry nooit weer oor tyd wat uitgaan of punte wat brand nie.

Jy hoef nie te worry hieroor nie. maak net skoon en dan is daar 'n rotor button trick wat jy moet doen. Dit maak die Patrollie net so bietjie beter operate en ligter hardloop. Niks ernstig nie maar definitief die moeite werd om te doen. Die rotor se metaal deel is uit die staansppor te kort. Jy wil dit bietjie langer he. Baie ouens weld 'n klein bietjie ekstra vooraan. As jou rotor alreeds so lyk dan score jy. Maak net skoon en sit Pertronix Ignitor in. Maak groot verskil.

Wat se materiaal gebruik mens vir die stuk wat ingeweld word?

Ek het gesien daar is n maaaase gap tussen die rotor se punt en die kontakte in die cap.

Is die verskil in meer krag of beter verbruik?

Waar kan mens die elektroniese distributor in die hande kry?

Kyk agter in die CAR magazine is daar 'n iemand wat die Pertronix Ignitor adverteer. Ek kan nie sy besigheid se naam onthou nie maar dis iets soos "Coastal Marine" of so iets. :think: Hy is in die Kaap maar lewer landwyd af

You buy the Pertronix from Bruce at Offshore Marine International. 0824918536 I have had mine for as long as I have had the Patrol, 8 odd years. I also had one in my 2.2 Hilux. They don't last forever but they do make a big difference to low rpm performance and consumption. The rotor button trick also makes a big difference. see if you can buy a rotor from Nissan. Ja, ja Nissan SA sucks but you never know. you should be able to add most materials. As mentioned the Aussies build it up with a TIG welder and then just shape it correctly with a file. So any TIG welding rod should do, TIG 100 or something.

The best option in the long run is to get rid of the dizzy. put a SPitronix or MSD or something completely electronic in. Either with a crank trigger or a dizzy style trigger. Your Spitronix or local hot rod shop should be able to help you. Either get 3 twin coil packs from a scrap yard or a 6 coil pack from one of the fancier cars. You can buy aftermarket coil packs as well. There is lots of info available for making a dizzy car into a electronic car. it is worth the money and you'll see it in smooth idling, fuel consumption and power.

I also installed a Pertronix last month. Did it myself - no big hassle. Bruce supplied the LS version, that does not require any machining, but some forums in Australia reckon the LS is less reliable - so I kept the original wiring in place, so if the Pertronix should fail, I can quicly put the old points back. The only small issue, was that Pertronix apparently lately changed the physical size of the module slightly, so that when I installed it, it was rubbing agains the dust cover in the distributor, thereby preventing the vacuum advance from operating freely. A search on the internet showed others with a similar issue - I then dremeled about a mm away from the top of the Pertronix module, and it was then fine.

Wow, what a difference. Starts easier, idles now smoothly, and much more initial accelleration and I think more torque - the beast keeps its speed now at 120 on inclines where it was previously not possible. Fuel consumption also a little better - averaging lately about 6.5 km/l.

Definately a worthwhile upgrade.
