Radiator for 2001 3.0TD

Post by EdwardWT »

Hi all,
I have tecently added another Patrol to my garage. A 2001 GU 3.0 TD.
I have been fixing a couple of things on it and one issue I have is the radiator. It doesnt look the same as other similar model Patrols I have seen and even the cowling is different. So I think I am going to replace it from the start seeing that this specific model engine tends to run hot ot overheat easier( please correct me if I am wrong). Should I go the standard nissan radiator and cowling setup or would it be better to have something built? (Maybe 3core). If so where can I fing the right guys to get it done right first time round?

Hi Edward, the standard Nissan radiator cools the best in my opinion. Myself and Tinus did some testing between a 3 core coper radiator (which we both had) and the standard 2 core aluminium.

We both bot about a 10 degree drop in engine temp with the aluminium radiators.

Thanks Michael, do you perhaps have a ballpark figure of the cost of a genuine Nissan radiator?

Im not 100% sure, but I think the 3.0 radiator is a bit cheaper than the 4.2d one I had to buy because it doesnt have the two sensors and is about the same size.

Im guessing around R4,800

Not sure -- I am quoting somebody on another forum. It was claimed there that the LEXUS V8 Radiator does fit in the Patrol. It is bigger core and capacity.

In My PRADO I had a copper radiator made up by CHOPS Radiators in Pretoria.
On my Hard Body XD 30.Diesel I had the radiator replaced with bigger aluminum radiator by NORTHERN Radiators in Hermanstad .. And that ZD 30 NEVER went above normal temp again .. In Kalahari conditions 40 +++
Abel did the best job of the lot. And the Hard Body and 3.0 Patrol has almost same engine so the radiators should be the same
